Hi All,I'm a newbe on this forum. Im the wife of a man who was told last night that he had Postrate Cancer,as you all probley know we are both deverstated. I'm on this site on behalf of my husband to ask other people's advice on this terrible decease.

He is normally a very fit 73yr old, this is his first and only illness he's ever had. He was given the option of chemotherapy or an operation,oh I think hormone therapy was mentioned aswell.

has anyone experienced any of these options and if so your comments would be really appreciated.  The consultant told him on a scale of 1-10 10 being the most aggressive he was 7.

please please give us some of your valueable experiences.

I am a male and in the same age group as your husband, so I would like to give you both some reassurance that this problem can be sorted-out.

Whilst I have not personally suffered from prostrate cancer, one of my dearest most long-standing firnds has.

The news was as devastating to his family and friends as it was for yours'.

In his case he opted for an operation and hormone therapy, however subsequent to this I do believe that he also went through Chemotherapy. But the good news is that today 2 years later he is alive, well and as active as he ever was.

I hope that you take heart in this story, as it is just one of the many great success stories that I have heard of in connection with this totally unepected and awful disease.

Hi,Thank you for your reply, that is a heartwarming story.

I will pass that message on to him, when he wakes up.

We,ve both been exhausted over the last couple of weeks.

He had ten biopsies and he had a blood infection the next day,and over the last tow weeks, he's been in and out of hospital,we've had no end of problems. So now he's trying to build himself up a bit,it's really knocked him about.  Once again thank you and I wish your friend all the best for the future.

    Hi Norma,

I went through the op last Nov I fine now and sure your husband will be too.

Stay POSITIVE thats the main thong don't give on to it or it will take over your mind. Its difficult for members to give an opinipn without knowing psa gleason biopsy etc.

In truth the best person is his doctor!!

But if its contained the true way to be sure is to get rid find a good surgeon pads for a while but it soon passes and things get better very quickly.

Good look amd don't wait to long make an informed decision and move on.

So Tommy, in your oppinion, which I value more than Doctors.

Would you say 1month before we see a specialist again is to long.

The reason I value people's oppinion on these forums.is because these are the people who have suffered the dreaded disease.

Sorry it's took me so long to reply but there's been so much

    norma72045...welcome to the forum...

Yes I can certainly related to the feelings of being told that you have Prostate Cancer... Regardless of age this cancer is dangerous to say the least... Having a 7 Gleeson Score if concerning but not alarming so hopefully PCa is still localised within the prostate itself... Please remember that my PCa along with all the other commentators PCa are individually unique... Everyone is individual so take every step with this in mind...

Hi,sorry it's took me so long to answer, but as you can imagine things are all over the place at the moment. I don't really understand what people are talking about, when you mention,PCA localised within the Prostate.

what I'm trying to do is get some opinions off people for my husband to read, because he's not to familiar with this sort of thing.(Internet, forums ect).

Also what do you mean by everyone is indervidual,I know all our bodies work differently, I just need to know the sort of questions I should be asking such as bloods, biopsys of which he had ten and three showed Cancer.

Really as much information as I can gather.

Sometimes I think the people with the most experience is the people that suffer it.   Thank you for your reply, any more info would be appreciated

                      Take care NORMA

    Hi Norma,

I was 64 when I was diagnosed with Gleason 9. I am now 74. 8 months of the hormone Zoladex from Jan to Aug 2005 and radio treatment from Apr to Jun 2005 reduced my PSA to 0.2. My PSA has risen recently but on the face of it I am still healthy, but again on the Zoladex.

Don't be discouraged, there is a lot that can be done.

    Good Luck

Hi glamour,I don't understand all these things this is all new to me.

But I always believe even though our bodies all work differently the best people to learn from are the people who have experienced it.

What I'm really after is what are the best questions to ask,What's a PSA,ect ect, anything.

One question for you all is he is not due to see his consultant with a decision for a MONTH does ANYONE THINK THAT IS TO LONG.

              Thanks for your reply
