Worried

Hi

I've just come from an ultrasound to look at my ovaries/womb area where I was told the lining of my womb is abnormally thick (19 cm). Obviously I am going to return to my GP about this but in the meantime I have looked on the internet and I am worried there is something seriously wrong ie cancer.

The background to this is I have always had quite irregular periods with long gaps (up to 8/9 weeks) in between but I had some general light bleeding continuously from January to bascially now. I have had a definite period in the middle but it was much heavier and longer than normal - about 3 weeks, with a good 10 days or 2 weeks so heavy it soaked through and woke me up in the night and I had to change towels much more frequently in the day. I wasn't worried at this stage due to my hisotry and also I hadn't had a period for 2 months so I assumed it was just like having 2 at once. When that finished the blood carried on much lighter and so I went to my doctor and she had a feel around my stomach - couldn't feel anything. She put me on the pill where you take it continuously (I think it is progesterone) whcih I have been taking for almost 2 weeks. She didn't want to give me the normal pill since I am very overweight (15st 7 for 5 ft 4 ish) but surely it should have had an effect. She did say some women have irregular bleeding though.

She also referred me for an ultrasound and so the ultrasound report will now go back to my GP and I will return for a smear and follow up. But in the meantime does anyone have any similar stories or inclination as to what is wrong? I am 35, no children, not pregnant. My GP said her gut feeling was that I had a hormone imbalance from stress(I started a new job in January and it hasn't been going too well), but that was before the ultrasound.

I have previously had a similar situation when I was 29 with long light bleeding periods and I had an ultrasound to find I had an ovarian cyst. I was put on the normal pill for 3 months to kickstart things, and had another ultrasound 3 months later - the cyst had gone andmy periods returned to normal. This time the ultrasound lady said defintely nothing wrong with ovaries. She also looked at kidneys and nothing wrong there either.

Any info or reassurance would be most welcome. Thanks.

Hi Amy, sounds to me like you are oestrogen dominant? This is what is giving you all those symptoms.i have no children, 46 and am having trouble trying to get it lower.. To be quite honest you need to change your diet. There is a pill called Dim it decreases your oestrogen, oestrogen excess is usually caused by stress,. So what I know is that your stress hormone cortisol increases, in response oestrogen increases and insulin increases... So reduce stress... Not so easy if you are a stress head like me. So being a little over weight will also in crease your hormones. So long term strategy would be to have a high protein breakfast that should help keep cortisol down and help with high sugar levels in the morning, this will also help you lose weight. Eat 6 small meals a day.. All healthy. Keep away from wheat if you can introduce lots of veggies and when you feel stressed have some walnuts and almonds. This is also good at keeping cortisol down during the day..... Oestrogen is not your friend.. Go on the net to find progesterone promoting foods.... I hope this helps...

I was told thru hormone clinic to have a hormone test done at day 21. Oestrogen, progesterone, DHEA, ithink thats what it

was. Fsh T3 T4. Those ones are thyroid. Once you know your levels you will be able to deal with the imbalance. Cheers
