Worried about blood in urine...

I am a healthy 25 year old woman, with no previous urinary problems or infections. The other night I suddenly noticed that my urine was very dark brown with what seemed to be an oily layer on top. The following day this continued throughout the whole day, despite drinking lots of water. I didn't have any other symptoms at that time. The same night, I started to feel a stinging/ burning sensation and this was closely followed by passing red urine. The stinging then subsided, but I continued to pass quite dark urine and I collected a sample. The next day, my urine looked normal and I had no symptoms until later on in the day I had very slight lower back pain but again urine looked normal.

I took 2 samples in to my GP, one from the night it looked dark and one from the following morning where it looked normal. It came back that there was a large amount of blood in the dark one and a trace in the normal looking one. I then bought urine dipsticks and every time I test it comes back positive for blood and all other parameters normal. My urine has come back from the lab and there was no infection in any samples.

I have another appointment with my GP on Friday as she said if there was no infection it needs to be investigated further to see what caused it. She mentioned it could have been a kidney stone, but I would have thought I would have been in pain or had other symptoms. This would also be rare in my age. I am so worried it could be something serious.

Forgot to mention that in my recent blood tests before this happened, my kidney function was normal, but neutrophils low, bilirubin was at the high end of normal, ALT low, calcium high, adjusted calcium normal.

I have recently been taking iron, vitamin D and vitamin B12 but have now stopped as I am worried this could be doing something.

Were you given antibiotics in case it is an infection? Did your doctor send a sample out for more extensive/sensitive testing? It's possible you have an infection that didn't show up on the other tests. Dipsticks and standard urine tests are notorious for missing a lot of infections. I had recurrent UTIs last year and they were only caught on the specimens that were sent out to a special lab that tested for specific organisms and to which antibiotics they're susceptible. Good luck!
