Worried about cheekbone injury

So i was punched in the cheekbone on the right side of my face (long story) and it had lots of bruising and tenderness over the cheekbone. It happened last night and i went to A and E this afternoon to get it checked. The doc just toached the area and says he cant seen any damage and it just appears to be bruising but he didnt do an x ray so how can he be sure. I am scared my cheekbone has been fractured and its causing me great anxiety. Can being punched in th face cause a fracture?  and how can the doctor be certain its not a fratcure just by feeling the area?

Even if there is a fracture it should heal itself unless it is very damaged, which I would have thought would be apparent. If you have problems I should see your GP.

Samantha, the cheek bone normally heals itself unless it is server enough to cause a disfigurement to the profile of your face. If you are in doubt then see your GP as Ptolemy had suggested, or even pop up to your local drop in centre if your GP is full booked.

    Thank you for your replies

It is still sore to touch and it is still very hard and swollen

I can't see any severe disfigurement but it does appear to be bigger in the injured side. I just don't see how the doctor can say it isn't fractured just by looking and feeling. I am scared there is so much damage and I will end up with a dodgy cheek bone and a bad disfigurement

All that I can suggest at this time is a small ice pack to help with the pain and any swelling. As for pain relief, what about having a word with the pharmacist?

I would have thought it would be hard and swollen for a few days while the healing process takes place. The cheekbone is pretty tough and if it looks OK now it is unlikely it will change for the worse, just for the better as the swelling decreases.
