Hi all,
I'm a nineteen-year-old girl, and I've been experiencing headaches for over a week now.
The first morning, a throbbing headache woke me up - it throbbed right at the back of my skull, and the pain was severe. However, I started my period that day, so I attributed it to hormones. However, I've finished my period now, and I'm still getting them. The symptoms are as follows:
- I always wake up with one. It's dull, and it doesn't wake me, but I'm aware it's there.
- It's off-and-on. I'll get it at least four times a day for around half an hour.
- It's at the back of my head, and feels dull and achy. Often my head feels tight. Sometimes it moves around my head, like my scalp is being pulled, or something. Sometimes it feels toothachy in my temples.
I must add that I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder, so it could be that, because sometimes my neck aches, too. But I'm honestly terrified I have a brain tumour. if I think about it too much, I feel nauseous and dizzy - and I know these are both symptoms of anxiety and a tumour.
I suppose I just need reassurance, or a way to combat them - when I think I feel calm, they'll sometimes come on. I don't know whether it's just subconscious stress, or what....

Well certainly stress can cause all this you are having, but as its going on so long and you feel nauseous and dizzy, you really need to get checked out by a dr. If he doesnt reassure you, then insist on getting an MRI scan. Then it will put your mind at rest.
We on here are all sufferers of some form of a headache and have a lot of experience where headache is concerneed. Yours does seem to fall into a stress related type of headache, but as I am not a dr I cannot say exactly whats causing them.
Get your diagnosis first and come back and let us know how you get on. My feeling is you will be absolutely fine! We are here to support each other!
Good luck and take care. Best wishes

Hi Personal,
Thank you for your response.
I'm really not sure whether the nausea/dizziness is due to the anxiety or not - for example, today, I started to have palpitations. The headache also seems to be bilateral, with the top of my head on both sides aching; my neck aches; and behind my eyes feels toothachy.
At the moment, I'm quite stressed about the rent for my house, my job, and my friends...perhaps it is subconscious.
I think I'll leave it another couple of weeks, and if it is the same/worsens, I'll go to the doctors' then.
Thank you for your advice and reassurance!

My opinion is that you shouldnt wait to see your dr any longer as you need to get your health sorted so you can work and therefore pay your bills. I hope you dont mind me saying, you are quite young to be saddled with this burdon on you, dont you have family who can support you in any way?

I'm not taking time off work or anything, I'm just constantly stressed while I'm there, aha.
Basically, my situation is that I'm a university student who lives at home during the summer, and lives away during term time. My student loan covers the rent, but I need money for bills and food, etc. My parents do help, but I don't want to burden them with too much - they're not that financially well off.
I think I will perhaps see the doctor, as the sensation of the top and front of my head being squeezed/the pressure is really quite uncomfortable. Now the pain has radiated to my nose, and I don't know whether the mild tinnitus im experiencing has anything to do with it...
