worried about librium

hi all hope some one can share a light on my problem had really bad health anxiety in june tried sertraline and citalopram which did not suit me had ecg's and blood tests all ok doctor put me on propranolol 10mg 3x a day also librium 5mg 3x a day been on them since september doctor said he will taper me off after xmas i'm worried he said he will try me on something else and i end up back to square one which was horrible i'm post meno 4 yrs and cannot take hrt could these symptoms be menopause related keep thinking got cancercared to come off tablets do you think i'm addicted doc say's no as its only small doses

    Hi Wendy,

    Librium has a medium to long half life so if your doctor tapers you off gradually you shouldn't have such bad side effects. Maybe they will suggest a different Benzo so you don't get an addiction to Librium.

      if benzos were dangerous i don't think doctor would prescribe them it's more than there jobs worth sorry, and to say something like that to a person with major health anxiety i think it wise to keep oppinions to yourself

      Hi Wendy,

      From personal experience I was on a Benzo (Diazepam) which was the most helpful medication I have ever taken in my 53 years.

      I personally did not find myself addicted and was able to taper off without any problem.

      It is not my opinion it is a fact.

      Benzos are only allowed to be prescribed now for 2 to 4 weeks. NICE Guidelines.

      There is a massive amount of information about the dangers of benzos on the net.

      hi jackie i questioned my doctor about this only to be used like you said upto 4 weeks but my gp reassured me i'm only on a low dose that is why i'm on them until after xmas just till i'm stable enough to wean off them they are only dangerous if you are on a really high dose and are weaning off them because of alchohol which i'm not the real dose for severe anxiety is 25mg 3x daily i'm only on 5mg 3x daily
