Worried about MRI scan

I have an appointment with a Neurologist in March and my doctors says an MRI will be ordered at that time. Can anyone tell me if the MRI has brought on their neuralgia as i am afraid the vibrations will give me an attack while i am in the machine. I know i have to have it done but would like some more information about what its like from someone with TN who has had an MRI. I would value any opinions from this forum.

    Hi, I had several MRIs when I was in hospital suffering, and never did it bring on an attack. I'd suggest if you are concerned that you could get one whilst in there, ask to have an injection to block the nerve in your face for the time that you'll be in the machine. smile they're more noisy than any vibrations that you can feel..

    I had TN for 16 years had an MRI scan. It was just noisy no vibration. I had a balloon compression and have had no pain now for 16 months. I am 71 years old and at last I have my life back. I wish you luck with what ever treatment you have.

      thanks for your reply. The first referral the neurologist gave me for an MRI i screwed up in a ball and put in the bin because i did not want to have it done. now the pain is worse and i know i will have to have it done so i have to wait again now to see him and ask for another one...

    Hi I've had two MRI scans and it has never effected my TN. It's not the nicest thing to go through as it's a confinded space but it's pain free. It is nosiy and I find noise and vibration brings on my TN but I was fine. Good luck with it all.

      Yes, i am a bit claustrophobic and dont like the idea but what choices do we have. I had an MRI years ago on my knee and the noise was deafening even though they gave me earphones. not looking forward to it.

    Val I too am not one who dislikes the enclosed space. I do my MRI procedure's in what is termed an Upright MRI ,you sit in a kitchen chair and they may have to tilt it slightly backward for the correct angle,the machine halves are on either side of you and the noise is present as that is part of it's nature. You can watch TV during the procedure but not move of course. They put a restraining head band type harness on you but it's quite comfortable,takes about 35 minutes. Upright MRI locations are not easily found but may be worth a search by you. good luck
