Worried about Pulmonary Edema

Hi all,

Does anybody know a thing or two about Pulmonary Edema?

I've been somewhat sick about 6 weeks which started it a fever that lasted 2-3 days. Ever since then I feel like I've still fighting an infection that just isn't going away.

I've had countless sleepless nights (guess mostly due to anxiety) which isn't helping.

These few weeks I've had real fatigue and feel a bit breathless after doing daily tasks. In the last 1-2 weeks my energy level has been improving very slightly day by day but still nowhere near what it used to be. I.e. an easy bike ride would have me breathing harder than usual.

The real problem is sleeping. I can't sleep for more than 1-2 hours at a time, then most of the time I wake finding myself breathing harder than usual. This is with the help of Valerian and Melatonin.

I came across this condition called Pulmonary Edema yesterday and freaked out a little because it has a couple of symptoms consistent with what I've experiencing, i.e. shortness of breath doing usual daily activities and difficulty breathing lying in bed, also waking up after 1-2 hours of sleep.

I'm normally a very fit and healthy 32 year old male. What are the chances I have this condition?

Doctors aren't too much help these days. Unless you are really sick they are not interested.

So as you can imagine I'm pretty stressed right now.

Many thanks for any advice,

I really doubt you have pulmonary edema because if you did you would be wheezing or gasping for breath, some other signs are cold clammy skin, a cough that produces frothy sputum and maybe tinged with blood, feeling of suffocating and it would be an emergency. people with severe heart conditions are more prone to get pulmonary edema .

please don’t look up conditions because they don’t pertain to your individual situation and you’ll just scare yourself. so many symptoms go with so many conditions.

Do you still have a fever? if so you should get checked out. mild pneumonia can also cause shortness of breath. and so can the coronavirus, Even though that usually includes a cough., but not necessarily.

if your symptoms dont go away, be persistent with your doctor that you need to be evaluated. sorry you are stressed. take care

Not gasping for air. I was coughing up some white/clear phlegm for the last 3 weeks or so but it appears be going away for the last 3 days. Yesterday there was hardly any and today it is basically gone.

No fever except the initial fever 6 weeks ago that lasted 2-3 days.

I notice in the morning these days I'm somewhat breathless but my energy improves throughout the day, and by 6pm or so I feel tired again. This is still nowhere near the energy level compared to when I'm healthy.

My energy level overall is very low at the moment due my immune system fighting the infection and lack of sleep. I feel colder than before in the same room wearing the same cloths. Also I notice for the past 2 weeks if I expend some energy I start to feel colder with cold hands. I'm actually quite concerned about this. Couple of people told me not to worry as it's just due to the lack of energy and also because I'm not as active as before.

These days I'm working from home (light work, emails, calls etc....). In the morning I do a few sets of sit-ups and pushups. In the afternoon I go for an easy bike ride. Also some housework, cooking etc...

give yourself some time to recuperate. Whatever was going on has most likely run you down. it actually sounds like you are slowly improving so sometimes it takes a while to feel back to your old self. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water to hydrate yourself and to flush out the virus or bacteria that was causing this. Sounds like you’re going to be just fine. Don’t overdo anything and do get plenty of rest. keep your mind occupied on positive things. Take care

Thanks for the positive note. Doctor tells me anxiety is causing a lot of what I'm feeling right now. It is true that I'm constantly obsessed with my breathing which isn't helping.

I normally never get sick so being taken out of action for a few weeks is not something I'm used to.

Due to my anxiety I sometimes just get this feeling of doom like soon something really big and bad will happen. i.e. my body would just implode in some nasty way.

But like you said I'm trying focus on the positives and improvements.... though it's not always easy.
