Worried about taking Sotalol

Following an angio-gram, I have been taken off Bisoprolol and proscribed Sotalol. Now I had been proscribed 2.5mg of Bisoprolol, but would only take half my proscribed daily dose and even then I had such severe side effects that they told me not to come to work until things are sorted following our work nurse calling an ambulance for me. Bisoprolol has turned me into an old man overnight, my lungs dont seem to work anymore and I just want to sleep

Now researching Sotalol, it sounds a lot worst, in America it is only recommended as a last resort for serious arrhythmias, which does not make ne feel too good, it is also said the patient should be kept in hospital for the first three days for observation, here the NHS sent me home without even trying it on me.

I am really worried that as I am so sensitive to Bisoprolol, Sotalol might even be worst?

    I sympthise with you, i was put on bisprolol 1.25. which is a small dose on 4th feb for svt when i was admitted to hospital, i also have ectopic beats, they made made me feel awful, i went to my gp but she was was abrupt and told me to keep taking them, i do feel more tolerant of them now, i go to the heart specialist next wednesday and dread the thought he will increase the dose, i don,t want to feel like a zombie, its quality of life not quantity.   My friends son was put on sotalol and he was kept in hospital for a few days.

      Cheers Ann, do you know if your friends son was kept in purely to ensure he was ok with Sotalol or for other observations?

      Regarding increasing your does, obviously you do what your doctor suggests, but personaly, I found the minimum does that controlled my heart and stuck to that without even telling the doctor.

      He has major problems with his heart at age 43 and has a pacemaker fitted so it could be the reason they kept him in.  Mylan was the name of the bisoprolol, a low dose  does seem to keep my heart at a steady  rate, i don,t feel the missed beats, the svt  was intermittent and seemed to settle after a short time but the one i was admitted to hospital with was 197 beats a minute and after an hour it was still the same, they put me on a drip with adenisone.  I don,t like taking tablets but i realise i have to now.

    Here we are nine months later and I found this post of mine so here is an update.

    I didnt take the Sotalol for the first couple of weeks, but a cardiologist rang me at home as my Reveal Linq device inform them I kept going into Ventricular Tachycardia and he wanted to know why.

    When I told him my fears, he told me I could die from the Ventricular Tachycardia and so I started taking it.

    What a big life changing mistake that was, Right away I developed a very bad cough that no cough medicines should touch, so I went to my doctor, he looked it up on his computer and said, stop taking the Sotalol, sure enough the horrendous cough went away, but I have to this day been left with a tickly dry cough that makes me went to cough with every breath, its OK when I lie down but as soon as I stand up!

    Saw another GP about it, along with my other serious long lasting side effects of Beta Blockers, but nobody in the NHS agrees they caused the problems or can still be causing me problems, and claim I have anxiety. "What do you want me to do about it"?, was her curt response when I went to see her about it.

    I have however, discovered an in dept article regarding the Autonomic Nervous System which of course is what Beta Blockers act on, and which all my symptoms relate too, the article goes on to say about disorders of the ANS and one of the triggers it states is Beta Blockers!
