Worried! Just been prescribed Ramipril

Hi Im a 30 year old woman who has been prescribed Ramipril today after receiving high BP results. They have started me on 2.5mg and asked me to take it at night. This may sound silly but im really scared of the side effects the cough but most importantly the dizziness and drowziness!
Can anyone offer some support or advise or experience! The more positive the better!
Thanks

Ive been on ramipril for a couple of months and yes I heard about possible side effects. Firstly bear in mind that all medicines have potential side effects and some people suffer effects on all sorts of medicine. I would guess that well over 90% of ramipril users have no undesirable effects and you rarely get those users on a site like this because why would they - they are happily getting on with it and with their BP under control. If you do get a side effect and your convinced it is because of Ramiril then persist with your gp and get a second opinion if your GP is seeming unsympathic. Those who do get the effects (of which a cough is a relatively commom side effect 1 in 20 I think as is a dry mouth) should tell ther GPs not put up with it. There are alternatives to Ramipril and any GP worth his or her's salt should consider these options. Most side effects are just annoying so please give the ramipril a go -2.5 is a low measure and if you think you having probelsm with side effects then tell your doctor the next time you see them. Usually when you begin on Ramiril they check your kidney function via a blood test and that would be within a couple of weeks so check on that if that isn't the case.
Best of luck with your BP -all I know is that Ramipril is very effective at getting BP back to normal once you have been on the drug for a while
