Worried. Spot or lump?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have discovered a spot on my vulva, it is small, hard and pink. Worried especially as it is impossible to get a GP exam at this time because of virus.

Does anyone have any knowledge about what a cancerous lump might look or feel like? I am trusting that because I can see it and it is not embedded in the labia, it is just a spot.

Maybe a clogged gland or pore? Pink like surrounding area or different than ? Not sure if skin tags can appear there but as you age there's all kinds of weird things that "appear" it seems to me.

Maybe you can call and speak with the nurse to get some feedback from your doc?

thanks Beverly - it is same colour as surrounding skin and on edge of outer labia on surface.

I can email my Surgery, so will do that if this doesn't clear.

I'm going to go out a limb here and say it's just one more thing growing where things didn't grow before. I'm not sure why the ageing process seems to include this but I discover marks and bumps on my body that weren't there the last time I looked. A lot of them itch. You would think there would be fewer things as we peter out instead of more.

Let us know what your nurse or doctor has to say.

    Hi Sarb,

Ok - firstly stay calm, continue with your regime and wait 2 weeks .

I think you're UK ? Our guidelines are if anything abnormal doesn't resolve after 2 weeks see your GP. My guess(hope) is you won't be fobbed off if you ring the surgery explaining you are Vulva aware and proactive in taking control of your LS and remind them of the guidelines.

Hopefully it'll be nothing more than a spot blocked with ointment or something . Cancer is still rare ( yes we're more at risk).

Life and illness still carries on during this Pandemic - sending a big hug.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi - meant to add to post if you want to speak to someone contact The Eve Appeal - Gynae Cancer Research Charity you can e-mail them and they will get back to you.

I'm not sure their phone line is operational at this time - but nothing is too much trouble no problem too small ( they helped me and put my mind at rest over a matter I didn't think warranted a GP appointment but needed medical advice ) they have a specialist Gynae nurse and an amazing sense of humour too.

    Good Luck

thanks Sarah I will contact the Eve Appeal if I get more worried, but will email my surgery first. And your advice to wait 2 weeks makes sense - hopefully it will clear up. Hard not to panic though as with any changes when you have LS.

Two words - Don't panic , so easy to say yet so hard to do, I know.

I'm sure one day you or someone else will have to remind me of my own advice - you are always so helpful to others on this forum and have given me ideas to try. We're all different and have different regimes that we use then have to tweak with help from others.

Try not to prod, poke or squeeze the spot and distract yourself with nice things for the next two weeks - ......... maybe not the news .

I think after the diagnosis of LS , the 'dark days 'and getting to grips with controlling it we are stronger in spirit than we realise ?

Thinking of you and hoping its just a temporary blip. x

    HI,

You could also google it online and find photos of vulva cancer if you like to see what cancer of the vulva looks like. Hope that helps. Good luck and don't worry and cause yourself unnecessary stress until you connect with a professional about it.

    Hugs.

thanks Michelin - frightened to look at cancer photos, but might brave it. I am just hoping that if it turns out to be cancerous, I can 'catch' it early. My fears are compounded by our NHS systems being on overload and that something like this would be put on hold and also the thought of setting foot inside a hospital is concerning.

I know exactly how you feel. I myself hope I don't get sick during this critical time. I know it's hard but try to stay positive until you speak or receive an email from the experts. If you can, in the meantime, have a look at some photos. It might relieve your stress. Please let us know when you have answers.

      Stay safe.

michelin - you are right and I will try not to stress. I have looked at photos and what I have is nothing like the red raw lumps shown. It is a small pimple, so I am hoping it will go in a couple of weeks or is only a cyst.

I am recovering from knee replacement surgery, so I think my body is all over the place right now anyway. All my energies going into healing.

I have upped my borax soaks to everyday which helps to soften the skin and soothe. I will contact GP in 2 weeks as Sarah suggested if I dont think its clearing.

      Thank you again.

Call and ask...given the times, they may allow you to send a photo so they can look at it.
