Would I be right in thinking...

That the ratio of women to men here is something like 80/20?

I was definitely surprised when I first came to the forum, I had the preconception that it would be mainly middle aged men and by that I mean 40 - 60. With a few younger blokes and the odd woman, but in the main, few and far between.

And if anything, the ratio seems to be moving to 90/10. I don't know whether it's blokes not wanting to talk about it or women are secretly more alcoholic than they let on in public and/or that women didn't realise when they got equality, they got the bad side as well, like equality of stress and hitting the bottle to overcome it.

If I went to count the number of men, who regularly post, I think I would need one set of fingers. Paul doesn't count, so, there's me, Robin, Richard and...

I know, I will have missed someone, but I did say regulars, not people who are reading this and once posted six months ago.

Hi. This actually fascinates me as now I know for a fact after speaking with Dr's and alcohol services it's mainly women.

Normal everyday women, mum's, working mum's, married women, that seem to live in a socially acceptable drinking world.

At the school gates all I hear is, " oh I've had a rough day at work/kids driving me mad- can't wait till wine o clock"

I know many of my friends that if they carry on as they are will no doubt be on here like I am!!

Ladies lunch and think nothing of drinking 2 glasses of wine then drinking a bottle at home on an evening.

It only escalates and creeps up and before they know it they'll be in the same boat as us!!!

    I certainly agree with you.

    Shelley.

I think women like to TALK more...and men like to read and come up with solutions so that takes more time.

Also from my personal experience....woman seem to not be shy about talking about their downfalls...where as the men in my life freak out if anything they are doing that would be considered looked down upon...they do not want advertised on the internet.

Hi, RHGB.  Your ratio is scarily correct... from a female point of view.  We seem to have the greater problem.  I think that is not the whole picture, though.  I do not want to seem sexist, but men don't share their problems and worries in the way women do. That is just the opinion of an odd woman !

I think women cover their problem very well.  Many, many functioning alcoholics.  Unfortunately, the female body does not handle the excessive alcohol as well as the male body.  We get more damage, sooner.  Then everything goes horribly wrong.

Your viewpoints are very valuable... to balance things a bit.

Do keep Posting.  More men should try communication(out of the pub).

Another thing, many women drink a lot at home, alone. Guilt Trippers R Us.

I think women seek answers more than men

We know we have a problem more than men

We like to communicate more than men?

We are more concerned about our health than men?

    This is all just maybe's

Ha, ha, ha, Paul.  I am doing the out loud laughing again.  I have regressed to such a state of angelic innocence, that I didn't even think of that.  I must be re- living my childhood.  I remember being rather perplexed when you mentioned sex re the other things without opiod receptors, re Selincro.  I am sooooooo Retro.  Pre- it !
