Wound infection

Hi

Had left THR Feb 1st and had staples out 12 days later. The wound site wasn't redressed and although tender appeared healed.

However six days ago I noticed that at the very bottom of the wound started to go red no oozing no temperature slightly sore and inflamed. so I put a iodine dressing on and changed it everyday.

Yesterday I saw the doctor and he prescribed flucloxacillin is there anything else I could do to help the wound heal I see the surgeon in 10 days for my six week check up and just want it to be healed

You are doing everything you can to avoid an infection.  Keep an eye on heat emigrating from the wound as well.

It sounds like you are doing the right things. Ideally it would be good to culture a sample to see what infection is there but I imagine flucloxacillin is a broad spectrum antibiotic so should do the trick.

    Hope it clears up soon.

As I understand it getting an infection in the wound during the initial healing process does happen though is not very common. Generally it is reasonably easy to treat since the infection is in the soft tissue so blood and antibiotics can easily get to the infection. As Ducksoup says it may slow your recovery a bit but keep smiling - it will be ok in the end.

Take the antibiotics..... keep the site clean.... watch for any oozing..... and I am go going to pray that whatever this is it goes away......!!!!   Complications suck..... I wish you were not going through this.....

    Sending hugs on the wind.....

You are doing the right things, but consider adding a high protein diet to help the healing.

I would make sure your surgeon knows there is a wound infection and get his advise now not in another week

I had an issue with part of my surgical wound after the rest of the wound had healed. Make sure you talk to your doctor and ask about having a dressing on it. Mine did not recommend using iodine or anything like that. I used saline, kept it clean, and changed wet to dry dressing twice a day.

My doctor did have me take an antibiotic for precaution even though there wasn't an infection at any time.

Even with the dressing, the sutures can cause an infection, like mine did.  I was functioning with one cane, walking and suddenly couldn’t get out of bed easy.  One week setback.
