Wound not healing!...again. Help!

I had my first op back in march 07, even though it was nearly a year after i first noticed the problem! I had day surgery for this op, and was butchered (to quote the nurse) by the surgeons with stitches like barbed wire that the nurse struggled to cut through to remove them! It was visible that the stitches would never hold the scar together and, lo and behold, it came back and never healed.

Early this year, I had another operation for it, by a specialist who deals with this type of problem and it was done so much better. Apparently I had a long line of sinuses next to one another, but still didn't have it packed. It was a type of reconstructive surgery where they faffed around with moving patches of skin etc. Unfortunately, its only 90% healed, and lower down (the embarrassing bit of it!) just will not heal. I've been off work for over 6 weeks now with no sign of it healing. Recently its started bleeding/discharging more and is becoming an expensive problem as I can't work due to me being sat behind a desk all day! I went back for a couple of days but it just made it worse.

So all in all 2 years down the line and I don't seem to have made any progress, but obviously this is common with these.

I was just wondering if anybody knows of anything that will aid the healing process other than what the doctors and nurses do and keeping off it and keeping it clean etc.

I've read how some people have had 3,4 or more operations on it, and really want to get it sorted once and for all as it affects so many day to day things!

Any help would be appreciated!

I only knew that they had came back from what the doctors and nurses had told me. Before I had my second operation mine had gone all bumpy and lumpy. The nurse said it had gone keyloid (think thats right) and it meant it had grown over, but underneath it was all horrible. Obviously yours might be different as I don't know what it's like. This time round its in much better condition and the scar is much more tidy and normal. It has mis-shapen my bum a little bit tho at the top!

Hope this helps. Please ask if you have anymore questions as I'm still off sick with it, so I'll be around!

I first had an operation in 2006 for pilonidal sinus which was removed and had to have packed daily by district nurses - 7 operations later including a rhomboid flap im still suffering! I have an appointment to see another consultant as the wound just doesn't seem to be healing - just wondering if anyone else has had as much problems?

I have had it on and off for 5 years + 7 ops and a full plastic surgery reconstruction leter they eventually at my request after I did some research gave me laser hair removal on the area.... I have had one sinus appear since that is nothing compaired to my old ones... May not be a cure but its the first time in over 5 years I have been pain free and in no need of antibiotics. Ask them in the states it has been used with great success

Have had 4 ops and mine's still not healed up - been told by consultant that there's no infection and it'll heal but the nurses who dress it every day say that there's been no change for approx 2 months now - it's just refusing to finally heal! Have tried numerous dressings, including the latest - Manuka honey! Any one any other ideas??[/quote:53a30c673c]
