Wound still leaky

So had staples on the 15th Feb and still have dressings on. The nurse at hospital spoke to doctor on ward but I have to make a gp appointment tomorrow. Has anyone else had a leaky wound that has lasted a while??
I also walk with a limp on operated leg, unaided. I am doing all the exercises and using one crutch just wanting the limp to go!!
Not a happy lady today but am sure it will all improve eventually.

Hi, cannot help with the wound, mine was internally stitched and glued, no dressing from day one, and clean as a whistle, had to start moisturising after 3 weeks as it was so dry, back to GP for you I think, it needs looking at. Regarding walking, back to two crutches outside until you have a straight back, no limp and no pain, it seems too early for you to use none or one. I have only in the past week, stopped using a cane after 4 months. Suggest you purchase a light weight retractable one for when you tire. Slow down, rest up, it will come eventually.

Hi Helen,
yes it will be a doctors appointment tomorrow and yes will be working on the walking to have further exercises to do to, every little helps. Did you walk with a limp beforehand, I did when the arthritis was really painful and physio last week seems think it part of the reason,

Yes, I did limp before, but was fortunate that I didn't have to wait long from diagnosis to op, although I probably put it off too long., my biggest mistake. I get lower back ache sometimes and my knee area feels like shin splint pain like when I used to run., but am convinced that is over compensating, it settles with a heated bean bag. Concentrate on walking when you can and do the exercises, but they are not the be all, as somebody posted the other day.

Thanks Helen,
I had the arthritis about 6/7 years before I even went to the doctors initially. I just saw a private physio who worked on my hip from time to time and when it got really painful. The first time I did go to gp, he xrayed my knee as he thought it was gout. However it was only when physio wanted the xray to see what he was dealing with as it was getting worse was when they xrayed the hips. I had to ask to be referred to consultant and only really waited a year. I did get back pain at times to. I am thankful I have at least no more arthritic pain. I will keep positive and walking (with two crutches is absolutely fine).

I had revision surgery Feb 14. Wound drainage was too great to go home 😦 . Had a Picot-7 dressing and it wasnt enough. 5 days post op they applied a skin pump for 3 days. The drainage was a lot. A regular dressing was applied 10 days post op and when the pump was removed. It was draining but the incision looked closed so I was discharged on day 11. Iam 2 days home and my home nurse changed a saturated bandage today. In my case multiple dislocations and previous revision in JUL 18 caused major tissue damage. Hang in there, it will get better. Praying for all us hippies!

The limp will go - it just takes time, sometimes more time for some of us than others! Once you have built up your muscles it will just suddenly disappear. Keep using the stick / cane until it goes.

I will keep focusing on my walking, when I use both crutches it is fine and I still have at least three 3 weeks with them but will have stick/s that I can use afterwards too!

gp was happy with it, no infection and only leaking a small amount at the moment. He will be more than happy to look at it again when I see the nurse on Thursday.
So feeling better about it today.
