Wow what an interesting read. It does give you some insight into why not all doctors take our concern as parents too seriously when you read the different experiences of everyone. It is reasurring to hear you are not alone.I feel that although our daughter may not be as bad as some of the cases described our main point as parents is that surely it is not right for our children to experience the level of pain and discomfort they do.I think perhaps if doctors could see what our children go through they may be more sympathetic. Our daughter who is now 3 has suffered with varying degrees of constipation since she was a baby. We have tried all the usual senna lactulose and movicol but none really alleviate the pain or the discomfort for her. She used to be a picky eater(vicious circle through not wanting to eat as tummy hurt) but now her diet has improved but this does not seem to make any difference. She drinks more than enough fluid. We are continuously told to not make a big deal about it and she will grow out of it. This appears to be an easier said than done because when you are with a child who is irritable, and screaming in pain all you want to do is help them. I was advised by one docter recently to take her mind off it and carry on as normal. Well I suppose if I wish to go out and have people stare at me because my daughter keeps screaming I need a poo! in between numerous trips to the not so lovely public toilets I am sure I could just carry on as normal! We do tend to spend every 3rd day at home as it is easier to spend the day in your own toilet with your child rather than a public one. We have now cut out senna and lactulose to try and reduce the amount of urges she gets.As we were finding that the senna apperared to be giving her pain and the urge to go but with no results. We vary the movicol and try desperately to get the fruit in many different forms into her. We do our best to ignore it and praise the end result but we are never happy or comfortable seeing our otherwise healthy and active girl in extreme pain and when its bad lethargic and asleep at 11am. we can only hope that it does improve and she will grow out of it. We will be looking into the food allery route now I think. Good luck to everyone.

its driving me crazy being told this level of pain is normal and he will grow out of it, I totally feel for him everytime and it breaks my heart,
I am so affarid by the time he has \"grown out of it\" it will have affected his otherwise care free happy personality
