Wrist fracture

I fell and broke my wrist seven weeks ago. It was a collies fracture but with two breaks. It was put
Into plaster for five weeks. I am now two weeks out of the plaster and I can't believe how horridly
painful it is! I am doing the exercises religiously and am trying not to overuse it. The worst pain
comes from the little finger side and not near the thumb. Where the fractures were is uncomfortable but the other side of my hand is worse. That side was black and blue when the plaster came off and pretty badly swollen. Some, but not all of the swelling has receded.
Anyone else had this experience? Not sure if I should return to the surgeon or, if it's pretty normal,
stop whining!!

Hi jan, so i am 15 and i broke my wrist 1 month ago, the doctors saw that the arm bone moved a little bit and that there is a little fracture in my wrist well i broke it of course on a skateboard XD and the doctor had to move my bone back in... Like pop it back into its place and everything was ok and i took off my cast a week ago and my hand is still swollen but no pain at all and like you my little finger side hurts but not a lot so i am still wondering when will the swelling go? And how r u after a year of your wrist fracture is everything ok?

Hi I fell while me and my family were bowling. I slipped on the slippery part of the lane past the line that you're not supposed to go past. Anyway, fell on my left wrist and immedietly it swelled up. We went to the ER and theey told me i had fractured it. I was in a splint for 2 weeks, and a plaster cast for 4. Had cast taken off yesterday and the swelling is what is the most uncomfortable. that and i'm afraid to use it cause of the paain. Dr gave me tylenol with codiene but i'm really tired of being on meds. but? anything is better than the pain

Hi .... I broke my distal radius 10 weeks ago (6 weeks out of plaster). After a manipulation of the brake didn't work, I had to have surgery to insert two k-wires. My wrist is still really stiff and I'm having difficulty flexing my wrist/palm backwards and forewards. It's quite painful too and not unusual to get a sharp shooting pain up my arm. Been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome due to the surgery, apparently... something to do with the nerves.
?I'm a very active person... in the gym 5 days a week ... I was doing a boot camp class when I broke my wrist but now, I can't bring myself to get motivated. I'm totally traumatised with this whole experience. I've never had anything wrong with me before. Devastated!!
?Can you tell me how you are now? It looks like this thread is quite old so are you OK now??? I can't ever see me getting back to how I was.
Thanks x

Keeondon,
Hi my name is Eva and you just commented in another thread, you need to post a new discussion of your own because there's a chance of more people seeing it that way. Now then, I sure am sorry this has happened to you. I fell at work and went to get x-rays next day and they said that I had a Intra-Articular Distal Radius Fracture, they put me in half cast because they couldn't find a Orthopedic surgeon that was in office since it was the weekend of July 4th holiday, since it was Workers comp claim, I got in to see Hand Specialist on July 12 & from day one he has said no Fracture but he has given me 3 different diagnosis, Arthritic Episode, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, then there's the latest Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. I have asked long before now for second opinion and I finally got one November 9th but recently I have started having even more problems, My Hand& Arm have begun to swell and doctor that has been seeing me doesn't want to see me until after my second opinion doctor to see what he says & won't give me pain medication say's for me to go to Emergency Department if I'm in pain. I don't think I will be back to see him ever again. Start your own discussion Hun and keep us updated with what you find out. God Bless You...

Hi
Believe me I know how you are feelng i am in my 17th week of Physio to try and get my fingers to bend, my wirst actually seems to be okay but my fingers I cannot clench. I am a golfer and this has been devastating for me and without my Physio encouraging me that this will come good I would have been well!!!! Dr's and Consultants have been of no use. Just keep on in there yes it hurts but with no use it would be dreadful just keep going and I am rooting for you. I have been told that this could take up 2 years to get back or perhaps it will never get back but I am determined
Best Wishes Wendy

Hi Wendy... I'm still the same as well and I'm 22 weeks post op and still having physio and group hand, wrist and shoulder occupational therapy. Just been to see a new hand and wrist consultant today and she is going to get a CT scan and may do a manipulation under GA as I still cannot supinate my hand at all. Very debilitating. She does think it's due to CRPS and possible Soft tissue damage but wants to see the CT scan first. The CRPS has shown up in my bones today in new x Ray, -apparently it shows some changes and osteopenia. All metalwork seems to be in a good position though. I like you am determined this is not the end and am going to keep at it despite little to no improvement. Keep at it and let's hope we all get some improvement.

Damn...Vicky.... My PT only mentioned to me this week about manipulation of my wrist under GA (as a last resort of course) but I don't fancy that at all.... nightmare!! I don't want to have any GA... no surgery... nothing!!!
?I can't believe I'm in this situation.
?I don't really understand what your meaning about the CRPS (about the new xray showing changes and osteopenia) can you explain to me? I'm so sure it's hindering my progress.

Apparently the bones can show changes if CRPS is suspected. Or so she said today!! Bit like thinning if the bones I'm led to believe

I'm awaiting a MRI/Ultra Sound for my suspected Rotator Cuff Tear so I think I'll mention the CRPS just so they're aware x

I stayed witrh ba doctor in Holland for two months and half. Then I went to Grand Rapids and the doctor is about for montrhs, now decide for surgery. Nothing gets to the normal. I`m just trying to have my hand improving. I hate to think about surgery, but I have to try!

Wendy, I think there is no 100% good result after broken wrist, so many poeople after seven months decides not to have surgery because we don't see any better! WOW! God helpm us, friend!

I fell at work on June 30th and October 30th will be 4 months, the doctor I have been seeing has given me 3 different diagnosis and I have an appointment for second opinion November 9th I know what you mean because it sucks to hurt and not know what to do or what it will take to fix the problem. I think the first doctor was right with Intra-Articular Distal Radius Fracture, and the Ortho said no fracture, said I had Arthritic Episode which I've had Arthritis for over a year and that's not what it feels like he gave me Cortisone Injection and it's went down hill since, more pain and pain that's traveling up my arm and it was just my hand and wrist to begin with. I can't even stand to be out of my brace for long at a time. I hate this, wish it wasn't workers comp I would have answers if I could see the doctor I want. hopefully the second opinion will shed some light on what is going on with my Hand/wrist/arm. wish me luck I need all the help I can get. Pain is getting rediculous and doctor doesn't want to give me pain med's cause he says it's just nerve pain but nerve med's don't help.
