Wrong diagnosis??

I'm not so sure I have just lichen sclerosus as the more I read about vulvodynia the more I have the same symptoms, I've had the worst day ever! Constant burning and stinging at the introius. I feel so raw too. I had to use instillagel, got some relief. Any time I touch myself to put on dermovate or any other creams to soothe I feel as if I just aggravate the area. Anyone else feel like this? If so, grateful for some tips and advice. Never thought I would constantly be thinking about my vagina!

No answer for this either.  Only the same symptoms at present. Noticed it this morning, after serious inspection.  And I don't know why.  What did I do different?  Well, there's LS for you.  Not always explainable.  Instead of using my usual coconut oil, I have started to use emu oil again, which did give some relieve.  Plus an extra treatment with Glob.  (Instead of two times a week, now three times)  What other choice is there, ah.

Hope for you that it will soon be over.

Hi...I live in USA...can buy emu oil at any health food store, but it is very expensive there....I found a seller on eBay who sells at a much lower price for a much bigger bottle.  I also buy emuaid on eBay...emuaid is wonderful.  It is a very mild ointment and is very, very soothing and healing in my opinion.  It is recommended also for shingles pain and other serious skin conditions.  You may consider trying that, too.

      Hi Edwina,

I live in the Uk and I bought my Emu oil from Amazon, it really does help with the dryness and irritation :-)

Under control again. Pfff.  I was working hard to get some things done, perhaps a stress element?  Don't know.  All positive stress, but stress in any form provides a trigger I guess.

It may be possible you have an allergy to some of the ingredients in the cream. You should be able to ask for the ointment version, which is much less likely to cause a reaction.

I was very mistrustful of my diagnosis at first too, as I was just in so much pain which took several weeks to settle even once we got the treatment right. I couldn't even sit on the chairs in the gynae waiting room! It turned out that, as well as the LS, I had allergies to some common ingredients in some of the lotions and potions they were giving me. Aqueous cream in particular made me howl the place down on first (and only) application! Things started to settle when my doctor changed me from steroid cream to ointment and cut out all other products. I have since found that I can use 50:50 ointment and e45 bath oil for moisturising. I also have to avoid contact with shampoo and shower gel and now wash my hair over the bath. I thought it sounded just sounded like so much hassle at first, as I washed my hair in the shower every day before and I just couldn't believe it could make a difference, I thought I would know if the products were causing a reaction, but turns out I was wrong! Still miss my bubble baths though and my laundry smelling pretty!

Sadly one doesn't exclude the other condition. I too have been thro the' I can't bear anything on my undercarriage",- if I mopped up after a wee the skin fell off. I cant use the E45 that is useful for many. emulsifying ointment is REALLY bland and may be ok for you. Go commando with long skirts, no bleach or biological washing powders for the undergarments. Dry the area with a cool setting on hairdryer. crushed ice in a damp soft cloth may cool the area

Dermovate will sting when the area is raw Try and keep the area clean  free from all body fluids and protect with a barrier if possible. Many of us think our diet has some affect on the condition- keep a food and mood diary- take photos on a camera and look at your undercarriage with a magniying mirror in a good light - see where to sore areas are and note any changes. If you are worried bring you consultant's appointment forward - phone the clinic and ask to speak to the secretary if the clertk says no appointments available

Take hear it will subside eventually- Do try not to stress about the condition - it ony makes matters worse!

    Good Luck Sue

Alison, I know exactly what you are going through, after 3 years of suffering ,my Gynae confirmed I had vulvodynia and Ls last year, I was started on Dermovate cream and Antripline tablets. The cream did help but left the area very fragile, once I stopped using the dermovate I started using a nappy rash cream with zinc in which after a short while the skin started to thicken up and heal. I apply it still after urinating.( I very rarely have to use the dermovate only when I have a small flare up)

With the vulvodynia the tablets didn't work, so I was weaned off them and put on Pregabalin, I went on holiday for a week and all problems disappeared, thought fantastic, the tablets are working, but as soon as I got home the vulvodyna started again. After much working out the only thing that had been different on holiday was the Water. In Devon they do not put flouride in the water, where I live they do. I have started drinking bottled water and installed a filter tap and the vulvodynia has virtually disappeared,it only flares up if I forget to take water with me to friends and relatives and  have a drink without filtered water.( I do not drink carbonated drinks) The pregablin made me really ill and they thought I had fibromyalgia and collitis, after stopping the pregablin all that went away.

I am convinced vulvodynia is caused by an allergy. Try making a food diary and see if after half an hour of eating or drinking something it starts. I hope this helps you, my Gynae  has discharged me now as I have it under control for myself.

Good luck, please let me know if this has helped

p.s Zinc and copper tablets also help, also I have stopped using flouride toothpasteas as half  an hour after cleaning teeth and not eating anything  it would flare up.

I tried all sorts of creams, double base cream and aqua cream caused my parts to burn, I never use soap only double base shower gel, the John sons baby 3 in 1 cream with zinc was the only cream not to burn, and my skin has improved  no end.

Alison, I think you're new enough here it might be worth my repeating the one thing we all agree helps – a third of a cup of baking soda in a bath, or a tablespoon in a basin (to splash on) or a pinch in a spray or squirt bottle (for rinsing after a pee – urine is very bad for our flared-up vulva). Hope that helps.

I have LS based on a biospy.  My Gyn Doctor prescribed Clob and referred me to this site to learn more.  My Gyn Doctor also said not to used Bleached toilet paper, or bleach or fabric softner on my clothes, sheets, towels, etc. that would contact my body down there.  I think that has helped.  Of course, I have also dropped wheat, dairy, sugar, etc. from my diet.   I use that no perfume, no bleach, no fabric softner clothes wash product, and I think it is helping.  Good luck, hope you find some relief.
