Wrong diagnosis??

After being diagnosed with vestibular neuritis im starting to doubt the diagnosis.

i was making steady progress but have taken a massive step back this week feeling dizzy as hell when im moving about im startin to feel im on the verge of another attack of BPPV or vertigo.

surely you cant go backwards with this as i feel like ive gone back 3 months

considering having the epley performed again as i cant take much more of this hell, i still feel i have something different to what they said its just a gut feeling i have

Anybody else made progress then gone backwards ?

Hi Steve93849 I too have had this issue and have just bounced back today to feeling better. When I was first diagnosed and started my VRT I felt great some days and off on other days and then for the last 3 weeks I have felt really bad, worse then ever and then today I woke up feeling great again. My dizzy specialist said to me that this kind of process is normal as its your body trying to compensate which means it is working. She told me I will feel great some days and other days will be bad and this will keep happening until one day I will feel 100 percent everyday.

My VRT has shown a lot of progress as well as feeling like it's not working but I will persist because it's on and off and my doctor has said this will happen and it's very common and that actually means I'm getting better so I just keep going and today I feel great again so hopefully it lasts for a while.

I have the dizziness for weeks now; they have done tests after finally put me on ativan. Been working but still dizzy! Try that and see what happens.im sick of being dizzy

If you are doing VRT keep at it and try not to take medication as it will slow down the compensation process. VRT sometimes doesn't work until after 3 months. It varies from people to people

Thanks cassie; but wen I dont take the meds the dizziness is worse so your sayimg it will eventually go away! Stopped doing the exercise too.

I was the same with medication, it would make me feel better but in the long run it won't help as the brain won't be able to compensate properly because medication is only a short term fix where as the VRT is a long term fix. VRT will make you terrible when you first start and actually makes the symptoms worse but once you get stuck into it more and more and you keep on it, it ends up getting better. Vestibular neuritis is actually an inflammation and damage to the vestibular nerve so it takes the exercises to compensate the brain and balance system where as the medication just helps the dizziness and doesn't fix the real problem on the inside.

I get the spaced out and get light headed too but that's just a part of the vestibular neuritis.

And I have done the exercises that they have but I stopped cause the room stopped spinning.just dizzy wen I walk or stand but not bad that's why I thought the meds were working

You will need to see someone do get a proper diagnosis and then do some VRT rehabilitation they will give you specific exercises to get rid of the dizziness

The exercises are the only things that help me but it may be different for other people

Ok thanks alot but I till I go what's the best thing to do keep the dizziness down

I was never given any medication because it stops the brain compensating. After 8 long months I am beginning to feel about 90% normal. I had times before where I was feeling better then a relapse for weeks at a time, but I just kept doing the VRT exercises and going to the gym and walking a lot, it all helps. Never thought I'd feel this close to normal again so here's fingers crossed.

Thanks christina; I do the exercises and I'm gonna start walking more to see if that helps.like I said the spinning is gone.the mornin time time and night time are the worst for me! I tried not taken meds couldn't handle it but I guess I should just feel it out so it can finally go away! Thanks again

Hi Vanessa, when you walk make sure you don't look down, look straight ahead and fix on something tgen move your head side to side slowly, like you're window shoppin, or mor of a slow nod on each side. This helps the balance. Worst thing is to look down as this doesn't help the balance organs.

      Good luck. Christine
