Wrong diagnosis?

I had a spirometry test 3 months ago. I told before test I have a chest infection but they still made a spirometry. Results showed mild asthma.

?I never wheezed in my lungs, and I am not getting tired due to effort.

They putted me on steroid inhaler (Clenil Modulite 100mg) 2 puffs morning and 2 puffs night time.

?After seeing a specialist, he told me that it is not asthma and it is a post nasal drip due to a chronic sinusitis. Because of that my throat and my airways becames irritated and that's way I feel chest tightness sometime. He also said that spirometry looks good for a chest viral infection. I always breath better when I clear my throat. I never cough.

?He said that to finish my treatment with steroid inhaler(1 month left) and then he will keep an eye on me for the next 6 months.

I have anxyety since that diagnosis and my life is upside down.

My question is: if is not asthma.... does the steroid inhaler damage my lungs?

?I feel confused and I am upset because asthma diagnosis was done by a nurse not a doctor. I am not saying a nurse is not skilled but when a diagnosis is tricky you need a doctor...

?Many thanks

I would question the diagnosis of asthma too. I've never heard of them diagnose asthma from a spectrometry. I thought it was always diagnosed by having a pulmonary function test. Was it a pulmonologist that you saw? As to whether the steroid inhaler hurting your lungs, I don't believe so but steroid are not something to use lightly. Steroids are dangerous and even though your only getting a very small amount each day I would be cautious in the use. That being said since the Dr said to finish it up, I would do as he said because that short period of time should not harm you.

      Hi

      Thank you for reply.

      ?Yes, it was a pulmonologist.

A GP saw me 4 months ago and he told me definitely is not asthma and it is a respiratory virus who affects my chronic sinusitis and needs time for my symptoms to go. He booked for me an appointment after one month and because he stopped working for my clinic I was seen by a nurse practitioner? where she puted an asthma diagnosis. I have tried to explain that I have different symptoms but...that's it.

I didn't know that a post nasal drip due to a sinusitis can make you feel so sick. It is so tricky.

?For now, I have started(following the dr advice) to make rinses with saline solution and I feel much better.

?Amazing...sometime a cheap and easy home treatment can be so usefull.

?I will post an update as soon as I have news

      ?Many thanks!
