Got signed off from hospital last thursday, still got to obey 90o degree rule, walk short walks without stick/crutch, but for follow up xray he wants it done in 7 years, yes 7 years, this seems a awful long time to wait has anyone else been told this

That does seem a long time, but thinking about it, the joint should last for over 20 years, so in the life of a new joint, it's no time at all really.

I see my surgeon on the 1 year anniversary date May 5th, then 5 years...

Here in the US, after complete recovery, they recommend coming in yearly to see the surgeon for a check-up. I've had several x-rays since my surgery in July. Don't know how often they will do them again, but I will be seen again, and I imagine if I report any problems, they will x-ray. I still can't walk right after 25 weeks, so I am still being monitored.

When was your surgery? Since you still have restrictions, then you should still be seeing a doctor.

    Hi marilyn,

I had my THR in September 2015 and the letter just arrived to  go for a check up in September 2016. I think this is fairly routine but surgeon wants to check up on my bone graft so he will need to x-ray me again.

I don;t mind at all , better safe than sorry.

They must be pleased with you if they say seven years to next check.

Hi Shirley, just wondered what your recovery was like after having a bone graft. I had the same in December

I don't think seven years is a long time; rather a reflection of how confident your doc is that he/she did a great job that will last you a long time. My daughter's father-in-law had a THR in 2015, a full 20 years after having both done. So they really are made to last.

    Hi Marilyn ,

My surgeon told me 3 years and at first I was happy about that, but now I start to question it as well - I mean, I had 2 new hips !!!

Unfortunately he has quit being a surgeon due to too many forms, rules and regulations ---- but I think I call the office and schedule one for 6 months 2nd THR which is one year anniversary of 1st one -

7 years is a long time to go without having a check up ....

    big warm hug

I have to go in two years and then every five years. I think this is for the joint research project rather than any personal concerns.  Tony

7 years does seem like a long time given most of the time we see 10, or 2 week, a year, or even come back if you experience any discomfort. I guess you can put it in your smart phone and save the date. The good thing is that you are dong good. I would go back if you experience any discomfort, or severe pain or if there is something that doesn't seem quite right. I am still at the see me in 4 weeks stage. I would love to hear those words.
