X-ray image hip joint

My elderly uncle recently fell on his left hip and now he is unable to walk or stand on his left leg. He usually feels pain on the outer portion of his upper left thigh when moving his leg. We got the xrays done and the finding is that there is no obvious fracture or dislocation seen at the hip joint, however there is a faint lucent line seen in the medial aspect of the left ischium and the femur. This could be a combination shadow and may not be significant.

I've attached the xray image as well and want to know your opinion if its an actual fracture or just a combination shadow?

Hi Parker,    If I were you I would have the Xray looked at by another medical professional, a second opinion from an orthopedist that specializes in hips would be good.  What is the treatment plan for your uncle??  Being unable to even stand, let alone walk, on his leg and having pain when just moving his leg sounds very serious.  My elderly husband is recovering from a hip replacement.  He also fell 3+ years ago.  At that time his femur was broken and "fixed" with 3 screws.  Your uncle has all my good wishes.  It's so sad to be in pain and unable to do so many things that were easy just a week ago.  It's good of you to be concerned with his well being!

    Parker,

For your uncle to be in that much pain something is off, I looked at the x-ray you attached and I'm not sure about a fracture but you know some people can't read an x-ray and they say nothings there and then something will be there. How long was it after the fall that his leg was x-rayed ? I have been going through something similar with my hand, the specialist said it wasn't fractured, but the first doctors that I went to said if was, and I had a couple of doctor friends take a look at it just for an opinion and they both said it was fractured, it was slight but there and they were, one was Ortho, and the other was a Chiropractor so that's 5 Doctors to the one I have to see because he's an Orthopedic doctor on the list they gave me to choose from. I can't wait until my second opinion, and yes devsmom is right you need to get a second opinion, because it would very well be fractured. I have had Doctors tell me that sometimes when you fall x-rays might show no fracture but it sometimes isn't finished breaking and I think he should get either a Bone Scan which would show the bones in movement and a Doctor told me if the x-ray doesn't show it the Bone Scan will if it's Fractured. A CT Scan would probly show it too if it's fractured. Keep us updated and God Bless...
