X-ray showed possible loosening of the Tibia compone of knee prosthesis

I have a question: How does a successful TKR feel? After let's say 2 years, are we suppose to feel any discomfort/pain? I am 19 months post L. TKR and have issues with some pain and discomfort in the tibia/fibula bones when I lean over to touch the ground, pick up things in the yard. My TKR was Oct. 19, 2016 and I had the routine 6 week x-rays that show some small sliver of a gap in the tibia area (mine was a press fit TKR because I am allergic to the bone cement). The bone has to grow into the implant. I have always assumed the bone growing was the pain I feel? Anyway, I ask my PCP for a x-ray and I had it done today. She wrote me back saying: "Your L. knee x rays series showed findings that could suggest loosening of the tibia component of your knee prosthesis. The formal component appears intact. Kindly follow up with your treating orthopedic surgeon for your L knee and leg pain". I plan to make an appt. with the orho for follow up but the way I feel right now there is NO way I would let him go back in for another TKR!

    Hi Cementless,

I had a partial knee replacement, right knee, medial compartment on 6 Nov 2015. Although a partial compared to a total, the journey is pretty much of a muchness.

I am pain free, both from osteoarthritis and post op, all I have is a mild stiffness. My implant was much like yours, my surgeon called it an impacted procedure. I feel the stiffness continues to lessen with the passing of time.

I got an additional bonus from my surgery too. Because of the way the two long leg bones met at the knee my wear and tear was in the medial compartment, this tilted my whole leg which was totally out of alignment thus causing incredible pain from the right side Sacrialliac Joint (Si Joint). During the surgical process my leg alignment was also reset, and now I am totally clear of pain from the Si joint too.

The only thing now is I can still use my right knee as a weather forecasting device, as much as 2 days ahead of a weather change - like from sunny and dry to wet. No different to before surgery.

I'm 2+ years with no problems at all...well...

It still gets a little stiff when I don't keep it active and there's still some nerve sensation when I kneel on a hard surface without any foam or knee pads.  No, I can't play hockey anymore but my daily life is virtually pain free and the knee has zero effect on my ability to function on a daily basis.

Still waiting for #2 to act up enough where I'll need that one done.

My knee hurts/feels sore when I get up from a sitting position, bend over to touch the floor, rest and turn over in bed. Walking helps more than not walking but I don't walk a lot. In all fairness, just finished Metal Patch testing and it shows I am allergic to Cobalt! My whole knee replacement is made out of Cobalt!!! It has to be removed. Prior to my LTKR, I had an Orthopedic blood analysis done to see if I was allergic to metals and bone cement. It showed I was mildly allergic to bone cement. I had a cementless implant. The Cobalt almost was the same level but my orthopedic surgeon did not concentrate on that part. Thus the knee must come out and be done with a knee Oxinium Oxidized Zirconium implant.
