Xolair works wonders for CHRONIC HIVES! I saw results immediately

Please try Xolair shots, I had horribly hives for months and months that wouldn't go away with diet or anything. It is a fairly new medicine, but I saw results right away. I have gotten the shot 4 times now, (4 months) and I haven't had a hive in weeks!

Hello All,  I am new here and desperately need some help.  I am on my third shot of 150 mg so far no relief.  I have swelling in my face mostly lips and eyes 1 to 2 days after getting the shot and still having hives which is worse in the mornings.  I was wondering what doses you all are getting that has worked well for you.  I am really getting concerned that I have the bad luck of being one that this is not going to work for.  I also have type 2 diabetes and I don't know if it is the Xolair shots or the hives themselves but I am really struggling to keep my numbers in a decent range.

Hi there- so I currently get two shots of the 150, so a total 300 mg every 4 weeks.  I will get my 14th treatment on Wed.

It did not work for me until after the 6th treatment, I was just like you absolutely terrified it wasn’t going to work but my doctor said I was just one of the very few for it to take that long. I didn’t wake up one day and it was gone, it slowly dissipated between maybe two treatments but for months now I have had zero hives, a completely normal life.  Also when it just started working my doctor had me do it every 3 weeks then to 4 just since it took so long.

Maybe suggest going to the 300mg, it was my understanding that was the most common dose versus only 150mg (but I’m not a doctor).  I would definitely not give up, just give it time you could be one of the few like me.

Also hives are always the worst at night and when you wake, it’s with everyone.   I forget the logistics of the body but it’s factual. You’re not alone on that.

Hang in there, have faith, and try not to stress it will only make it worse.  When you wake in the morning tell yourself you have a choice to feel good and make that choice.  Our mind frame is so much of it.  Hope this helps, I know exactly what you’re going through and it will get better, just hang in, you’ll get there.

Thank you for your reply as I was getting discouraged.  I had read somewhere maybe Xolair's website that you should start seeing results in three months.  I had such high hopes after the third shot only to be disappointed.  It is good to hear that it has taken 6 months for some as it still gives me hope.  I may discuss with my doctor increasing my dose even though he may want to wait if it can take up to 6 months to see results.  I was about to give up until I found this website now I have renewed hope.

      Hello The.avon.lady1,

The recommended dosage for CIU is 300 mg = 2 vials each 150 mg in each arm every 4 weeks. Speak w/your provider if you have questions.

In clinical studies, **XOLAIR was shown to help reduce the severity of itch* and the number of hives† in patients who continued to have symptoms that were not controlled by H1 antihistamine treatment. Individual results may vary.

What are the possible side effects of XOLAIR?

XOLAIR may cause serious side effects, including:

      XOLAIR.

Fever, muscle aches, and rash. Some people who take XOLAIR get these symptoms 1 to 5 days after receiving a XOLAIR injection. If you have any of these symptoms, tell your healthcare provider.

Parasitic infection. Some people who are at a high risk for parasite (worm) infections, get a parasite infection after receiving XOLAIR. Your healthcare provider can test your stool to check if you have a parasite infection.

Heart and circulation problems. Some people who receive XOLAIR have had chest pain, heart attack, blood clots in the lungs or legs, or temporary symptoms of weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, or altered vision. It is not known whether this is caused by XOLAIR.

The most common side effects of XOLAIR:

In people with chronic idiopathic urticaria: nausea, headaches, swelling of the inside of your nose, throat or sinuses, cough, joint pain, and upper respiratory tract infection.

I have been on  Xolair for 10 months. My Dr decided to try 6 weeks apart instead of every 4. The day after my 10th shot I started getting hives again, back in full swing. I still had my 11th shot, hives are still here. So disappointed. Now on  prednisone for now.

Sorry to hear that i’ve also been on zolair for about that amount of time and was thinking of doing the same thing but so scarred as I am still getting rashes like crazy but no hive i only get rashes that are really itchy and keep me up all night like today i’m off work because of no sleep. It’s a constant battle for me.  The zolair is really helping but it’s not gone completely. I hate hearing about the long term side effect also that’s why I wish they would recgonise this as a disability so at least we would’nt have to work and suffer. I almost gave in and went on a round of prednisone also just to get rid of my rashes but i’m getting my shot this Thursday so i’m hoping it will calm down again. I wish they could find a reason were getting this and a cure. Hopefully you will get back to normal.

Has anyone tried a gluten free diet?

My Dr is wanting me to do this Histamine free diet.  Which I am. Also, Have you heard of Joe Cross, look him up. He had  a net fix movie called Fat sick and nearly dead. He had CIU and wanted to get off prednisone and the  other meds. He was successfull. He started juicing, I haven't watched the movie yet, I just heard about it.

      Hi

My dr put me on a gluten free diet along with no sugar .. when i stick to that i do not itch and hives seemed better but not totally gone.. The itching without the hives is so unbearable so i really try and stick to the gluten free as much as possible.

My immunologist told me that chronic urticaria is only hives but i don’t believe that. I only had rashes for 2 yrs before i started getting hives.
