XRay: endochondroma vs chondrosarcoma

I went to an orthopedist for knee pain. He determined it to be quadtendinitis. He took an xray and showed me an incidental finding on the X-ray which he explained to me was most likely endochondroma which is a benign tumor inside my femur. Somewhat common it appears

I have an mri in two weeks. To look at both the knee and tumor. I did some doom scrolling and became worried that chondrosarcoma looks very similar under X-ray.

Question: I understand an mri will most likely tell us the answer but is there any way the ortho can differentiate that the tumor is benign with just the X-ray or is he just sort of not putting me into worry mode until more information is gathered.
