Hi All,

I posted multiple threads 6 months ago about cataract surgery on only good eye that I have. Surgery went well and I was happy recently I am seeing some blurriness in vision so visited opthomoloigist and he suggested i may need yag laser to treat it... I am really worried now.. Is YAG laser has any side effects ? As per my understanding its very easy procedure and 2 % chance of rentinal detachment.. Since I have only 1 good I am again worried and nervous.. I hope its an easy and no side effects.. Kindly share your thoughts and any experiences you have with YAG laser. Thanks in advance

I do remember your posts from 6 months ago - rare situation with only one eye with good vision. If I remember you went with a monofocal IOL correct?

So glad surgery worked well. It is a shame you are experiencing pco so soon although that isn't uncommon and younger a patient is it seems to develop faster.

You appear to have a good understanding of the YAG and outcomes. I too have what I think is PCO in one of my eyes (been almost 2 years since my surgeries). Since I still have good vision with both eyes open I am holding off on YAG but am very interested in hearing from feedback from those who have had it done as well.

I assume same surgeon who did your cataract surgery had diagnosed your PCO and can do the YAG?

from my initial research cruciate method for YaG limits the occurrence of floaters.

i had PCO starting 4 weeks post surgery. my symptom is decreased near / intermediate vision.

waiting for yag is a double edged sword. if you do it early lens exchange if necessary is risky. if you wait for it the thicker capsule can cause noticeable floaters.

sharon wong in his video says that he would be an early yagger.

YAG surgery should be a Last last last resort. I had it done and now the floaters are very bad. Any type of light causes light rays to move around in my vision. My PCO wasnt that bad and I got it done and if I could go back, I wouldn't have done the surgery.

How long you had the surgery ? I read they will go away after few weeks... Seems it did not in your case 😦

I had cataract surgery in Feb 2016, had the Yag on October 2017, its now July 2019 and the floaters are still really bad. Just something to think about.

I had YAG laser treatment on both eyes some moths after cataract surgery when the capsule containing the new lens becomes cloudy. The procedure is called a capsulotomy and is completely safe and painless. No need to worry at all.

    Colin.

Thank you all. For some reason my post did not had entire text properly. Yes I had only one good eye and had cataract on in Dec 2018 and it went well. Went with monofocal Intermediate distance. My ophthalmologist saying I may need YAG and suggested to go to surgeon . I am meeting the surgeon on Jul 19th and keep you posted.. But I am really nervous to go for YAG with one good eye. My vision is not that bad.. Only far objects I am having little inconvience but I can live with it... Please share your thoughts.. Are the floaters very common after YAG as i read on internet they should go away after few weeks. Please share your experiences if you had gone thru YAG

      Hi VJ,

I'm planning YAG in 2 weeks. I already have significant floaters in that eye but the overall decrease in vision is noticeable, so I'm going ahead. I'm actually not worried about it at all. The doctor told me that within a year or two it may be possible to remove floaters with an ultrasound procedure. I'll let you know my results.
