Yeast infection caused by Clob?

Hi Everyone,

Last week I had what I thought was a horrible flair up. I couldn't understand why the clob was doing nothing. At first I though that maybe I had used too much and it over irritated the area, so I scaled back. Still applying 2x's a day but only a tiny amount which I plan on tapering back to 1x a day next week and then down to 3x per week after that. I started getting relief only when I applied castor oil with a drop of high grade peppermint oil and 2 drops of high grade lavender oil. I was having intercourse and then realized the it was really paining, like burning, inside. And it clicked that LS is only external.. so I checked and low and behold it was actually a yeast infection. I just assumed it was a flair up because the two are so similar. My questions are:

  1. Does clob cause yeast infections, or make them worse? If so what so you do to mitigate this problem
  2. If I have treated the yeast infection, will the clob application keep it from going away?

This disease is so frustrating. I am currently taking more supplements than I ever have previously, I start most mornings with celery juice and a heavy metal detox smoothie. Although I wouldn't say its making anything worse, I don't really think its helping anything either!

    Hello Jessica

Really glad you have posted this as o think i have the same issues. IVE been diagnosed LS 5 months. Before hand i was suffering with thrush. I felt sore inside this week so used a gel pessary which cleared it up so yes to its hard to weigh it all up! IM seeing clinic next month so will be asking how to manage both at the same time as i believe i too am suffering with both and finding the steroid could possibly be initiating the thrush!

I am thinking that I may go get some vaginal anti fungal itch cream today and mix a tiny bit with the clob before application to see if that helps the issue.

Hi Jessica, my thoughts are that the clob does not cause the thrush. I just happen to think that the LS and thrush often go hand in hand for some women. I take a Diflucan every four months to keep candida at bay. I also don't think that using the clob would stop the infection from going away.

With regard to veggie smoothies, you have to be careful with those because when you add up all of the oxalates and salicyates in one glass it is pretty high, and for some of us that can cause serious problems, especially if you are taking a glass every day.

      Thank you for responding!

I think that taking the diflucan every 4 months to stay on top of it is such a smart idea.

Are you able to explain about salicyates? I have never heard anything about this in relation to LS. I was thinking that as long as I was consuming things without dairy/gluten/refined sugars it would be helpful?

Hi Jessica, salicylates are chemicals found in plants and in many fruits and vegetables, as well as in many common health and beauty products. I have a serious problem with them, but it is quite rare and so I would be surprised if you had a problem with them. I do however believe that drinking veggie juices tipped my already sensitive body over the edge and caused my salicylate sensitivity, but of course not everyone will be that sensitive. (I have MCS)

I think Oxalates is the one you need to be careful about, as some people have reported that eating a diet high in Oxalates can cause problems down below. I know that one poster on here found that she was inadvertantly eating a diet high in oxalates and once she discovered that and cut back her LS symptoms seemed to improve. I think that if you are gluten/dairy/sugar free and everything seems okay then you have nothing to worry about. It is when you have cut most things out and are still having big problems that you need to look closely at other aspects of your diet.

Hi Guppy, I recently found out that there is a moderate steroid ointment that contains both active antifungal and antibacterial agents, it is called " Trimovate " and here is a little information about it:

Clobetasone butyrate is classed as a ‘moderately potent’ steroid, and is prescribed for the treatment of skin conditions, including eczema, dermatitis, and psoriasis. Oxytetracycline is an antibacterial medicine, and nystatin is an antifungal medication. This combination of three medicines in one cream treats skin that requires a steroid and is infected, or that is likely to become infected, with either a bacterial or a fungal infection.
