Hi everyone

Need some advice here, yesterday I just found out that I have bilateral polycystic ovaries,  I'm 24 and I have irregular mentrual cycle ever since,  I'm really afraid of this,  anxiety is taking over,  my parents didn't know about this and I don't want to make them worry and problematic about my situation, is this disease really that serious like it could be fatal?  And also I have a stomach full of air,  what are your symptoms guys?

No its not fatal. You sound like you really need to talk to your doctor and also do your own research on PCOS, buy a book on it...

Symptoms are; cysts on overies making it hard to conceive, acne, excess hair growth, periods all over he place, weight gain, moods, there is loads you need to talk to your doctor and find medication that's best suited for your symptoms

Hello Mimi. You are the same age as my daughter who has PCOS.I also have PCOS as did my mum (undiagnosed) and her mum before her. PCOS is a syndrome NOT a disease. So please don't worry that it it's fatal. As it's a syndrome,it affects sufferers in different ways. Some have excess body hair, some have acne, difficulty in conceiving, lack of periods, excess weight which is hard to lose.I've experienced three or more symptoms and yes,it can be very distressing and doctors don't have a cure or any answers really. Well the doctors I've dealt with didn't. The only advice I could give is try and control it. Difficult,I know. Keeping to an ideal weight seems to be a big help in controlling many of the symptoms. But it isn't fatal and I think your parents would be releived to know. As for a stomach full of air,I'm not sure if that is a symptom of PCOS!!! Best wishes. Dorothy

      Hi Dorothy

In the past few months I lose some weight and I can feel a lump on my left side abdomen and I bloat and burp a lot, my menstration cycle is once every 2-3 months.that scares me and prompted me to seek a doctor's opinion, she advice me ti have a sonography and I did it,  that was the time I found I have pcos,  I don't have the courage to talk about this ti my parents for now my doctor put me on pills and other medication,  I will have another ultrasound on December 17 to see if the cyst will shrink,  ,   she told me I may not be able to conceive if left untreated,  and I'm skinny now and I don't want this,  I don't have excess hair but I have moodswings sometime,  it really affects me now

Also I'm planning to work abroad and I don't know if I'm going to pursue my dreams or just stay and be treated in my country,

Thank you for thse reply,  it helps alot,

This disease is called the Silent Killer not because it kills even though you get treatment. Its called that because it goes undiagnosed and treated. Let that calm you first. My Symptoms: Severe Menstural cycles. at first 2 in a month then I started skipping 4 months and having them. More recently I had almost a 3 month severe period. Severe breast tenderness to the point of agony. Severe weight gain. Severe cramping. Disgestive issues. High blood pressure, Anxiety Depression. Infertility. I am strongly effected by stress. I just got diagnosed and she treated me right away I have immediately started feeling better. the symptoms will not completely vanish over night but with the right rteatment and exercise I feel hopeful Just remember this is genetic mother to daughter and it is controlled by the hypothalimus. So tell your mom to get tested.  Best of luck
