Go backwards fish till you stop, then forwards. You will feel the joint loosening as you work it back and forth. If it doesn't go......the body is telling you to slow down and take your time.

    Hi Cathy,

You will be able to ride it again in due time. Just keep half pedaling then b4 you know it, yiu will be going all the way around.

    Hi, Cathy,

My sadistic PT had me on the bike at five days! The trick was to raise your seat so there is less bend and more extension. The first few circuits had me thinking this is crazy as I could get around only very haltingly!! It felt like my knee was going to just split open. It obviously didn't. But after a few more, things loosened up and it actually felt pretty good..then I went home and crashed for two hours! At twelve weeks, the bike is still my go to for loosening and warming up.

I wasn't on the bike until the third week, and could pedal ALL the way around only after a couple more WEEKS!

Once I made it all the way around the whole room of people cheered!🙌

It was a great moment but one that didn't come UNTIL swelling went down and my muscles were ready.

Yeah, fortunately I didn't have real issue with swelling. Just keep it up and do as much as you can without overdoing. I still fall prey to that then pay for it that night and / or next day.

Hi Cathy I was 3 weeks post op when my physio put me on bike....but she got me to slowly back and forwards as far as could and then I went backwards first and before end 10 min session forwards, it felt good. I use bike now every day at least 20 mins some days have to go forward and back but i get there. Just take it easy drink plenty water and you will get there. All the best x

It depends on how many wks post op you are! I bought a mobility aid peddler and i didnt do it until about 8/9 wks! It was hard at first but at 12 wks now im using it a lot . I have just read a post on here where someone has said using a bike makes their knee swell at the back! Mine keeps swelling at back so im going to do little gos on it now not to long! To see! Dont over push your knee! Good luck!

I've just tried my bike. Can't go round either (post op 3. 1/2 weeks) so have been doing the back and forward thing. Seat is as far as it will go. Might ask hubby to modify it so the seat is higher.

My home therapist had me on a recumbent stationary bike after two weeks. Couldn't go forward but could go backwards. After another week could go forward. The recumbent worked great. Then when I started outpatient therapy at four weeks I was using a regular stationary bike. Therapist said I was the only one who used it since the others could not. Felt pretty good about that. Had flexion of 128 at six weeks and doc said I could stop outpatient therapy. Now I am doing all that stuff at home and saving $$$
