Zantac

im at the very start of diagnosis to a constant cough for 7 weeks now despite not being slightly ill. all the doctor has said is he believes at this early stage it is stomach related. ive had bloods taken - they were fine. a chest x-ray and i should get those results by the end of the week. he prescribed metoclopramide but ive stopped taking them mainly because they made me feel dizzy and out of it - no good as a single mum of 3 and driving. they didnt seem to make a slight bit of difference to my symptoms anyway.

my symtoms have been a persistent dry cough for 7 weeks. sometimes i cough up phlem and it sounds chesty others its very dry and tickly.

the absolute worst symptom is laryngospasms. waking suddenly in the night gasping for breath. it takes roughly 30secs to a minute to be able to breath. i just feel like im drowning its terrifying. after i always have a horrible strong taste of metal/blood.

a feeling something is dripping or just there in the back of my nose/throat. however i also feel like ive been chewing extra strong gum as my nasal airways seem super clear. very strange feeling?!

no heartburn. no indigestion.

as i stopped the metoclopramide ive been taking one zantac at bedtime and sleeping on 4 pillows so im upright. fingers crossed im 10 days clear of the spasms. is anyone on zantac long term? all thr leaflet says is do not take after 6 days? is anybody on it for longer and takes 2 tablets?

I was having that strong taste when I woke up in the morning. I had no heartburn bud just that taste that also made me feel like I needed to spit. I was diagnosed with silent reflux and was put on pantoprozole which took care of it. I also sleep on a wedge

it sounds like you have silent Reflux it's ok to take Zantac long term much safer then PPi medication

I was on pantoprozole for about a year as that was the only thing that helped. Dr. put me on 300 mg of the prescription based Zantac. Itook it for 2 weeks and my acupuncturist suggested juicing celery which I have been doing for 3 weeks and have not needed any medication.I did have some rebound reflux at first but I'm doing much better

Have you been given a d-dimer to test for pulmonary emboli? have you ever coughed up blood? Do you ever get palpitations or chest pains?

no ive only had a blood test and standard chest x-ray so far. bloods were fine im still awaiting chest xray results. ive never coughed up blood. one time after the spasms in the night the taste of blood was very strong. i had the slightest pink tinge to my spit.

ask if d-dimer was added to your blood test. If it wasn't ask if you can get one, it is something that is often missed.
