Zantac for acid reflux

has anyone tried Zantac for acid reflux with any luck?

how is it different from a PPI?

    Hello. Yes, I've tried Zantac as well as Prilosec. Both are acid reducers, but work differently. Zantac is what's called an H2 antagonist. Basically, it blocks a certain histamine that's involved in stomach acid production. This type of medicine is less powerful than a PPI and if taken daily for several weeks will stop working due to the body building up a tolerance to it. Prilosec (and other PPI's) are Proton Pump Inhibitors. These medications work by inhibiting acid secreting pumps in the stomach from producing acid. PPI's are more powerful and your body does not build up tolerance over time. Neither were developed with the intention of taking long-term, but plenty of people do take these long term. Especially PPI's since they don't stop working over time.

    I take both zantac and PPI medication zanta is a much less powerful drug it's ok as heartburn remedy but not very helpful if your having acid reflux
