Zeiss Monofocals.....Hoya

These are Zeiss Monofocals!

ZEISS CT LUCIA (came out in 2014-15 I think) and ZEISS CT ASPHINA ( No idea how old, I think older) If going with Zeiss, which would you pick?

The other two Zeiss are not interesting as one is spherical and the other is 3 piece!

In the other thread some of you said that you never heard of Hoya. I had many times and they are quiet big too.

    some quick thoughts:

    1. None of use are real experts on IOL designs. But a company is not going to introduce a new version of the same thing unless it's better than the old version, so the latest is usually the greatest. So without any further research, I would guess CT Lucia must be the best from Zeiss.

    2. So if a surgeon has not used the CT Lucia very much, I'm not sure I'd want to be one of the first ones (definately would not want to be the very first one). (Might this impact your choice of surgeon/clinic?)

    3. I mentioned before that it's hard to get info on size in IOL alone, as IOL are just one piece of sales. But since Alcon spun off from Novartis, and Alcon is only in the eye care business, Alcon does provide information on IOL market share. Search "2018 investors alcon presentation" and around slide 46, you will see 2017 market share. That's where I got the figures I quoted before -- Alcon 31%, J&J 22%, B&L 6%, Zeiss 4%.So while Hoya may be in the top 10, it has a significantly smaller market share than the others. That doesn't mean their IOLs aren't as good as the others at present. But that's why less people have experience with Hoya in these posts.
