Zoledex wearing off time?

Hi ladies,

I've posted something along these lines a few weeks ago but again would really like some advice - I had a 3 months course of zoladex injections in preparation for a fibroid removal. The last injection I had was the 24th November - it's now been nearby 10 weeks after there's still I sign of my period returning. I'm 33 and my husband and I are really wanting to start a family. I have noticed a lot less hot flushes and I'm incredibley emotional - not sure if that's a sign the zoladex is leaving my system - any advice would be very appreciated,

Thank you x

You are young, don't worry your period will come back enjoy the last few days, weeks without one. I had Zoladex & it totally stopped my periods whilst on it but they did come back. I think I finished it this February/ March & periods came back somewhere around May, with a bang! I then sarted a 3rd cause of Esmya, nothing reduced its size but they all stopped my cycle completely, which in itself was nice. Don't stress about your periods as that alone will delay their return. I had a big fibroid was 37 told I wouldnt be able to carry a child, didnt stress thought if it's meant to be it'll be & fell pregnant the first time of trying against all odds. My friend had IVF she was so stressed about pregnancy, then after she had her baby she was happy & stressfree then fell naturally pregnant!

      Hi Heather,

Thank you so much for your message and I'm so pleased to hear that it all worked out for you, it's really encouraging. Funnily enough, My periods started yesterday and have come back with a bang! I feel relieved though and hope that we can begin to think about starting a family in the next few months. I do worry a lot though so definitely need to try to calm my mind as yes, what will be will be and I think I just neee to let my body chill out for a bit! Thank you again x

Hey. I've had 2 injections of decapeptyl which is similar to zoldex. The first 3 months before the op and the 2nd on 1 September. I've still not had my period yet. I've heard it can take up to 6 months after the injection to fully get out your system. My hot sweats are barely noticeable now and I've felt a bit emotional for the past few weeks. I just want to get back to normal too as this drug has been horrible.

      Hi Nicola,

I hope you're ok. My cycle started yesterday so rest assure that everything will return to normal. I agree though, the drug can have awful side effects which at times I found extremely uncomfortable. I have been incredibly emotional and has bad mood swings for a good few weeks so I'm a way I think that was a definate sign that the zoladex was leaving my system, so it took nearly 3 months for me in total. I hope start feeling better soon x

Zoladex wasn't a great drug to be on for me, then neither is Esmya, the up side no periods, the down side a 11xm fibroid now pushing 16cm, one consultant who was "expert" said it was recently dead or dying, not so last Fridays CT scan on my kidneys shows a 5cm growth whilst I've been having Esmya & Zoladex with seeminly small arteries feeding it! Must be a lot of small arteries! So maybe embolisation won't be for me, as the can't block all of the arteries can they & it would seem my monster fibroid is keen on living! My battle against it mean its days are numbered, 10 years plus is enough!

10 years?! Poor you - That's great thank it's shrunk so much though and hope it continues to do so so that you are fibroid free! X

sorry you must have misunderstood - yes ive endured it 10 year but during the last 2 years on drug reducing treatment its grown from 11cm to 16cm! And its supposed to have small arteries feeding it!

Yes & embolisation, don't think I'm a perfect candidate for embolisation though as have thin arteries feeding it, though it seems to be able to grow ok! Must be multiple little ones. I have a young son who needs alot of assistance & a hubby that works away so I am verring more towards embolisation, to stop the damn thing growing & try to get some releif fromk heavy periods, some may say its delaying the enevitable, I think it may buy me a little more time until my son is a bit older, rather than have a full hsyterectomy at 47, but I'm waiting scan results from early January which I need to chase again really. Currenlty still on Esmya, stops bleeding but doesnt reduce for me. My monster is bigger than ever some would say reason to get it totally out, but I am apprehensive with the risks & recovery time with a young son & hubby away. I've yet to decide, scan results will direct me.

I had 3 zoldex injection course last year n when it was leaving my body it left me with hot flushes and mood swings but when is ur surgery?because my dcotor advised me to have a surgery after exact 3 weeks of last zoladex injection

Thanks interesting Suzanne, so your doctor obviously thinks that after 3 weeks the effects start to revert. Good to know.

      Hi Suzanne,

I had my surgery just before Christmas. My period returned on Thursday which was 10 weeks after last injection. I'm just praying that it doesn't last for weeks on ending it did pre op. So far, so good and consultant says that we can begin ttc after the next two cycles so really hoping to fall pregnant
