Zoloft 50 mg

Hi... I just started on 25 mg of Zoloft for one week & now I'm on 50 mg for another week for anxiety/panic. I have yet to feel the difference? Does it take this long to take affect? I really want this to work. I almost feel like I'm worse! It's been 14 days and really not much of a difference. Should I wait longer?

I took 25mg for 2  weeks. The first week I was sleeping good because I was taking another mdication due to transition from one medication to another so he gave me a 2nd medication for 1 week.  But when I started to take zooloft alone ( just 25mg) I could not sleep at all.  Not even get sleepy all day/night long.  It took me 5 days which I slept like 8 hours total for me to call my Doc and he immediatly took me out and put me on another medication.  Just like you I did not have depression, just anxiety so he took me out before the lack of sleep gave me depression. Now, a year later I'm taking Diazepam (Valium) 5MG at day time and 7.5MG night time and anxiety is gone and has been for a few months because all the medication for depression he tried on me did not work and just gave me several side effects.

With Valium I have "0" side effects. Before Valium I took xanax (low dose) for a few months and it worked as well, but at the end it killed my mechanical functions ( jeje) so he changed to Valium.

I don't have any problems sleeping....I never did...this medication isn't effecting my sleep- thank god!....but I just don't feel relief yet. I'm going to give it more time as its only 2 weeks.

I'm glad you found relief! ....anxiety is so annoying and interrupting!

I woke up every morning with a tight chest and hard to breathe, It only got better after a while and then I went up to 100mg. 50 just didnt do it for me. I wish you can have the peace you need and please be patient hang in there and just keep writing to us, we are here for you

Thank you! smile   ... It does help to hear others stories and know that i'm not the only one.  I just can't stand it because I didn't feel this bad before I started the Zoloft! .. So it's like "why did I even bother"?!!!  But, i'm almost 3 weeks in, i'm going to keep going.

When will I know if the 50 mg is enough for me?  Right now, i'm not feeling relief, but I hear it's because it's my body adjusting.   Just HOPING this kicks in!! ... I am work at a High School and luckily i'm able to keep VERY busy here with the students... but it's frustrating!!!  Thank you again Rachel! wink

Give yourself some time maybe another week or two if you feel no better by then I would ask your dr what to do. But it is helpful to keep busy even though the znxiety doesnt leave you.  Please keep going, keep taking it at the same time every day, somehow that is important for your body to adjust correctly. Looking forward to hearing from you again smile hang in there

I am going to TRY to stick it out longer... It's 3 weeks and it's really frustrating... I don't want to try "another"... I was on Lexapro for 8 years and silly me decided to wean off of it.  I suggested a different med to my Dr. and he allowed me to go on Zoloft (one my friend is on)... NOW, here I am a MESS..  lol ... this is terrible.    Anxiety like never before.   I have been reading posts this a.m. at my desk (at work) to calm me a little... i'm reading that it's normal for the "Adjustment period" to feel this way.   But 3 weeks in?

Did you have this too Rachel?

omygosh!  I was also on lexapro and loved it! it really helped and then because i gained some weight i went off and tried zoloft. I am so upset I did but i dont want to go off Im so afraid of withdrawal again...

yes the adjustment period was about two months for me, im so sorry. it really took longer than lexapro thats why i was so nervous. but it does get better i promise.

Ok, so you now feel MUCH better?  I didn't have this problem on Lex, well at least NOT this long.   This is torture!!  lol..  I hope in another week or 2 i'll feel this anxiety subside.. it's my ONLY thing i'm trying to cure.. ANXIETY!!!  I loved Lex too...I just wanted to change it up.. STUPID ME!!! lol

yes ! its nuts for me to have changed the meds too! they were working!

ok so i feel better but I still have pockets of anxiety but its more controllable, if that makes sense. i still wake up sometimes anxious but its not debilitating anxiety where I just want to cry and I shake....

But I promise you it took like almost two months, I cant believe I stuck it out, I couldnt stand my kids seeing me this way

Ok, so I just spoke to my Dr and he suggested 100mg now.  (so i'll be going from 50mg to 100).. now i'm worried, will this make me MORE insane?!!  I hope to God not..   I am going to do what he says, but was thinking maybe I should do 75mg for a few days first?.. what do you think?
    • Posted

so I should take 75 mg for 3 or 4 days and THEN do the 100?
    • Posted

If 75mg works for you you should stay at 75mg- If 75mg does not make you feel any better but is not making you feel worse then go up to 100mg.  But I will at least try 75mg for a week or 2 if you see any improvement and don't get additional side afects. Remember, this is just my opinion on a medication I only took for 2 weeks. I can speak for another  20-25 medications which I took for months at a time but this is not one of them. This medication did work for 2 of my friends but they never did say it took them 4-6 weeks to get any better but I have read all around that it does take some time and pain. ;-(

yes! thats what he did for me and 100 mg really worked, i started on 50 too.  what a difference within a few days. sorry I forgot to tell you that,  im brain dead!

Oh that makes me happy..  So Rachel do you NOT recommend me doing 75 mg for a few days?  Should I go right to 100 mg?

    • Posted

I jumped right to 100.  but I would do what your dr recommends. 75 for 5 days and then going to hundred sounds very wise. I cant wait to hear how you feel

well my Dr. said go to 100mg....   "I'M" the one going to do 75 mg for few days... I get too nervous to jump...   Although a good friend of mine said when she got to 100 she felt SO much better....   I think It's individual persons symptoms... so It's chance I have to take...  Aghhhh!!!!   i'LL BE IN TOUCH!  PRAYING THIS WORKS!!!  wink
