Does anyone take sleeping medication? I’m on antidepressants and it makes me drowsy but I can’t sleep or when I do, I have crazy vivid nightmares. I haven’t been able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time and I’m physically exhausted. I’ve switched medications and this is the only medication my brain reacts positive to. I jus want something that I don’t have to depend on & can take whenever I can’t sleep. My doctor didn’t say much other than it’s a common side affect in antidepressants. I'm taking 125 mg and im prescribed .5 as needed of alprazolam which really helps with sleeping but its addictive and I also dont think my doctor will prescribe me more. i asked him about xanax XR bc ive been diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety when i was in 7th grade. its persistant even with the antidepressants. im 22 years old now and my depression and anxiety has been at an all time low. i need solutions

    Hi miranda

i take sertaline 125mg but also take 7.5mg of mirtazapine which works in 2 ways .. it helps me sleep ( mirtazapine is used when insomnia is a problem ) and it also helps with the nausea which is common with many ssri,s

unlike alprazolam which comes from the benzodiazapine family of drugs mirtazapine is much less addictive ,but when used in combination with a ssri its best taken at low dosage ( 7.5mg to 15mg max )

i had clinical depression and ptsd and the combination of sertaline and mirtazapine has worked wonders .....

the only downside to mirtazapine is at higher doses you can put on weight however at 7.5mg this is rare

i hope this helps miranda and best wishes
