Zoloft 8 weeks today

Hi Everyone.  Today marks 8 weeks on 50mg of Zoloft.  It's been a roller coaster of emotions.  Ups and downs.  Some days, I feel so much better, and others I feel like I am back at square one.  It has helped my sleep so much.  However, my anxiety is still there (not as intense), but it's there.  I keep reading how long it will take to kick in and everyone has different answers.  Maybe I'm one of the people it takes up to 12 weeks to kick in.  I read another post about it taking someone 11 weeks to kick in.  Is this normal?  Should I wait it out another month?  It just seems so long and dreadful to do that, but I don't want this to be the medication and then I pull the plug.  Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much.

Hi Money.  You're doing great! The biggest step can be deciding to take this medication.  I started 31/2 years ago and the start up effects were dreadful.  I had a few good moments/days here and there from about 8 weeks in then by week 11/12 I felt brand new.  It was amazing.  The same will happen for you I am sure.  Stick with it.  You'll be fine!

Thank you Chris!! I really needed to hear that.  Someone else said they didn't feel it completely kick in until around eleven weeks as well, so that is very encouraging.  I will keep that in the back of my mind.  I have decided to stay on this medication until I hit the three month mark.  Hopefully by that point, everything will have settled down and I will feel brand new.  I can't wait Chris.  I really can't.  It's great to have this support group, because otherwise, I may have given up on this medication.  I now have something to look forward to smile

Hey money, don’t give up now, the fact that your having good days this early on is great news and a good indication that the medication is working. I’ve been on 50mg now for 9 weeks and it’s working so great for my anxiety. Of course I still have the occasional bad day or two. I know a lot of people on 50 mg and it works fine for them but it sometimes takes longer to work then others, everyone is different. Some people need higher mgs to work for them some need lower, some need different medication altogether. All I can say is 50mg after 9 weeks is working wonders for me! And it probably will for you too seeing how your noticing good changes already.

Hi Joe! I'm actually relieved to hear that 8 weeks is "early on".  Like I said, my sleep has improved ten fold.  My appetite has improved ten fold.  It's just this lingering anxiety, especially in the mornings.  May I ask when zoloft started "kicking in" for you?  You said you're at nine weeks, maybe I won't have to wait three more weeks, maybe just one! (fingers crossed).  Thank you so much for replying, I truly appreciate it.

Yeah I think the 50mg started kicking in roughly a week ago. It seems at this point I feel a little better every few days. I don’t see myself increasing my dose anytime soon that’s for sure. I’m personally having to much success right now on 50. Good luck and you got this.

    Hi Money,

I was the same as you, I was on 50mg for 10 weeks and although all my side effects had gone I still had the lingering anxiety. I upped my dose to 100mg and within a week I felt 100% and went back to work. It’s a tough call, you are either going to get back to yourself on 50mg but maybe in a few weeks or you may need an increase. The fact that your sleep and appetite have improved indicate that this medication is working for you. Speak to your doctor and see what they think. Good luck
