i have been on zoloft for 1.5 weeks now and i still have heart palps and vomitting and diahrea. Is this normal i quit smoking cigs 3 days ago they put me on ativan, because my anxiety and panic where still bad. do people still get increased heart rate when doing activities and just random palps. i have health anxiety and always think something is wrong... even though the er says there isn't.

Your side effect symptoms are normal. I personally would not tackle quitting smoking at all until you reach the point where you are settled and doing well for a good period of time. It's stressful enough starting sertraline. Nicotine withdrawal at the same time is just going to blow your mind apart.

hi mike. as giggty said trying to give up smoking and settling on meds is not a good thing to do, nicotine withdrawal can give you anxiety so your poor brain is probably in a state of turmoil. give it a few more weeks and then if you feel strong enough try again with the giving up, try not to worry too much, be kind to yourself and take baby steps and you will be fine

the side effects are pretty standard. i disagree with what people are saying about quitting cigaretttes. the health benefits far outweigh the risks of a bit of nicotine withdrawal. giving them up is one of the best thing you can do for your health and kicking the habit will give you such a sense of pride and accomplishment that your self esteem
and feeling in control will soar - this again will
help anxiety not make it worse. good on you and keep going!

I am not advocating that he does not try and give up but withdrawal from nicotine and start up side effects together are sometimes not the best experience, also you would not be able to judge which was causing what so best to let one settle before embarking on another. as regards to stopping smoking it is a proven side effect, that for some it can and does provoke anxiety and depression.
