Zoloft day 5
Posted , 3 users are following.
Started Zoloft this week .25 and am going to be moving to 50 mg next week. I was given clonoopin for when it gets to be too much. I actually did my first CBT visit yesterday but did not expect it to be so tough. After the visit I had awful anxiety attack and am now so worried about next visit. My question is if it is best to do these visits while I am getting adjusted on Zoloft or to wait until I am adjusted to it.

If it's not too painful to relive it, what was so tough about the CBT session. Therapy can go quite deep to explore what's affecting our mental state. I have a few family members who recall the "bad old days" of psychiatry when the shrink would get you to open up and bare your soul and then, times up, send you away with your emotions all over the place like a gaping wound. Sorry for that mental picture! My experience of therapy (including CBT) has been much more gentle - it definitely shouldn't leave you feeling more anxious than when you walked in. A therapist should prepare you in advance as to what you can expect so there are no surprises. If you don't feel comfortable with your therapist, could you ask to change?
Natalie is right - medication and therapy often work best alongside one another; neither is the whole answer on its own, but many wait a long time to receive therapy because of the huge demand. There are many self-help books and websites which could help you work through your anxiety, if face-to-face counselling is too overwhelming at the moment. Don't be put off though. We can help ourselves in lots of ways and we are all different. Let us know how you get on.
