Zoloft did nothing for me

Hello, all. I'm new to this group. I've been suffering terribly with health anxiety for over a year now. It's basically ruined my life and my family's life. I have general anxiety as well, and now depression. I tried zoloft for over 8 months. It stopped the general body anxiety (panicky feelings all day) but did not stop my constant health worries. I tried the natural route for a few months, and am more worse off than ever. I've read about how much better Lexapro is with depression and anxiety. I wanted to get some opinions and thoughts. I can't go through the terrible adjustment period in vain-my weight is already down from all this. Just looking for some support from others that Zoloft didn't really help, but Lexapro did..

thanks so much to you all

Hi Julie. Everyone here understands what you're feeling like right now, so I'm glad you found this site! There's a lot of good advice here and a lot of emotional support!!!

I've been on three different medications in the last 15 years and finally found that Effexor XR works like a miracle for me. I had originally started on Zoloft for about a year and felt that although it took away all of my anxiety, I was left feeling very zombie like. I was appropriately happy and sad at the right times in life, but I was just way too"flat". I felt slow. Then I started on Effexor XR and felt like normal self. Unfortunately my generic was discontinued and substituted with another generic that caused me to have breakthrough anxiety and panic. So my Drs thought since I wasn't getting relief from it anymore to wean off and start Lexapro. Turns out I had a bad reaction to it, which is uncommon!!!, in that my anxiety worsened.... Even after 10 weeks....I started at 10 mg for 3 weeks and upped it to 20 for another 7. Like I said, my reaction to it was different and uncommon. So I started back on name brand Effexor XR 75 mg. It's been almost a month and I really feel normal again.

There are many people on this site that swear by it and I think it's a good indication that since zoloft worked for your anxiety, Lexapro it will work for you. Lots have started off on small doses and gradually increased.

As far as your health worries, I understand that, too. Although I've been anxious as a kid, a bad knee injury when I was home alone 16 years ago triggered my anxiety and panic again. And now anything health related causes me so much grief. So seeing a therapist has taught me how to cope with that. It's a matter of being in control or losing control that scares me. But I have a handle on that now. Therapy is a definite must for people like us! Let us know what you decide to do. You're going to feel better again!! Take care!!
