Zoloft for a year and a half

Hey all, I'm 18 and I've had OCD and anxiety since I was a kid and long story short. 2015-2016 were the worst years of my life. I was 120 pounds (I'm 5'6), depressed, no appetite, nauseous, and just all around sick. I found a therapist, started Zoloft at 25 mg and now Ive been at 200 mg for about a year. I feel much better. Not depressed, anxiety is controllable, and my OCD is easier to fight thanks to therapy. I'm currently 155 pounds. I was diagnosed with ibs, because of my constiparion and diarrhea issues and my stool looks weird a lot. I basically want to know if I should continue to take Zoloft. My therapist said to take it for another year until I could for sure do this on my own. Which I understand, but I don't know how I feel about the weight I'm at. I've been eating healthier and am more active. Is the weight gain due to Zoloft? And how could I reduce the weight? Thanks.

Yes, the weight gain is caused by sertraline. I have the same issue. Now that I’m well, I’ve gained back on the weight I’ve lost in Nov and Dec. I don’t know what to say to assist with the weight game except just try to exercise more and eat healthier. Another maybe reduce your dosage to a lower maintenance dose – this is where I hope to get to eventually – and perhaps with the lower dose it won’t have such a big effect on weight gain? Not sure. I restarted on 100mg on Nov 19. Other than that, it’s leaning about acceptance. Also, I do not know if it’s a good idea for you to get off the med completely. I too have had childhood anxiety/OCD/depression and in my adult life, each time I have gotten off the med, it came back with a vengeance and it’s horrible each time getting back on the same drug and wondering if it’ll work this time around. Just my take. I would say, work with your doctor and take every step s l o w l y. Xx

Hey,thanks for the reply. I agree that I shouldn't get off the medicine but perhaps lowering the dosage would be a good idea. The thing is, I want to eventually get off the medicine and I hate the fact that I have some drug in my body. I'm being more active and eating healthier. My goal is to be at a steady 145 pounds with muscle. Hope everything works out. Let's fight this 💪
