Zoloft gives me super anxiety

Just started zoloft (50). My anxiety has been through the roof. My doctor put me on this to control the anxiety but it seems to create it. Is there light at the end of the tunnel.

I was told to expect to feel worse before I felt better...I’m just over two weeks now and yesterday wasn’t as bad

What you're experiencing is very common. I've certainly had it. If it gets too bad ask your doctor to prescribe some anti anxiety meds to help you through the early stages. It does get better, you just have to hang in there & keep the faith.

I read about this, although we take ssri's to increase serotonin and improve mood, initially serotonin levels lower, this is because our brain detects a rise of serotonin and intmitially stops producing as much, over time as serotonin keep on being increased be become less sensitive to the drug and serotonin level rise again.

That's really useful to know. And would make sense of why I feel worse 3 weeks in. Here's hoping we all get to where we want to be x

I agree! I think if it hadn't been for the support I have received on here I would have given up and stopped the tablets by now! Its amazing just how many people suffer from anxiety I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy. Stay strong x

    Hi Brenda,

It’s a horrible think I know. Have you just started? I was on 50 for 2 weeks. First week was really bad. 3rd and 4th day in particular. Second week was better so I’ve been increased to 100mg. It means my last 2 day’s have been quite bad again. Anxious, jittery, dark thoughts etc. But my doctor said it’s  natural to feel worse first. And every time you increase it you feel worse for a bit again. Everyone is different and it takes longer for some people but almost everyone I’ve spoken to eventually feels better. It might take a wee while but it’s worth it. Hang in there. If nothing improved soon head back to the doctor and speak to them. My doc made sure I came back 2 weeks after starting to make sure I was ok.

Thank you for reply, yes I just started it, first day was ok, second day I could feel my anxiety was creeping in and by the third day I thought I was dying. I'm very sensitive to meds, all my life I tried stay away from meds but this past year has been the pits. Maybe just because I'm getting older.
