Zoloft poop out and augmentation

Hi there. Has anyone experienced Zoloft poop out when taken for anxiety / panic? I am curious as to what to do. I've tried to go up in dosage, but I keep getting horrific side effects. Not sure if my body is just not responding to the drug anymore after 9 years (50mg), if I need to switch or if I should try augmenting with BuSpar? I'm at a loss and at week 5 and 5days (at 75mg) and still feeling anxiety/panic. Any thoughts would be wonderful!

Hi you may need to stick it out at 75 or more until your system gets use to that dose... Yep gotta go through those side effect again until you reach the right level. Your fortunate in a way in a way being on such a low dose, I'm on 150 during the winter and 50 in the summer, for depression and anxiety. Don't take my word for it, just keep it in mind : )

I must say though that my escitalipram did poop at max dose... Moved onto mertazapine, big mistake, horrid side effects and withdrawals..Sertraline is fine by me though got on easy with it....

Yeah...I keep hoping and hoping that a "switch" will go off between now and week 8. I am hoping it hasn't completely pooped out on me. I am getting rid of all the "extra" stressors in my life. I got off of it before I had my daughter and got back on in 2006. I remember going through 2 weeks of Paxil (devil) and 4 days of Effexor (devil's cousin) then back to Zoloft. It then took from September - December to feel normal. sad I am praying that is all it is...that it just takes me time to acclimate again and it isn't poop out. I also have been taking Klonopin at .25 at night and .125 in am just to function without the anxiety. I HATE THAT...I use to go an entire year without using the 30 day supply of them. Well, looks like I can't get into another dr until next week so that will be week 6 anyhow. Does it really take THAT long? Ugh.

It can take sometime but everyone's different I guess.. never had problems with ssri's sertraline and the like, even stopping them, hardly any withdrawals apart from being a little grouchy, but they have pooped at max dose, never pooped on a min dose but hey we are all different.... Some peeps love peanut butter, in some cases it can cause major peons with others... Sertraline has helped me I'm glad to say but if I have it with strong coffee it can make me manic lol which is not a bad thing I think. Good health with the up dose :-)

    Hi Lauf,

I was on 20 mg of Prozac for 10 years and worked great, I remember I had an increase in anxiety when starting back then, but not bad at all. Then depression came back, so I went to 40 mg. I only lasted 10 days because the depression and anxiety increased so much. So I was switched to Zoloft. Well, it was no better, but I'm sticking to it thinking that it will work eventually. I have been on it: 2 weeks on 25 mg, 2 weeks on 50 mg, and 18 days on 75 mg. I have not seen any improvement so far. I actually feel like I'm getting worse. I hope it does work for us. This is so hard.

    Hello,

I think I am facing sertraline tolerance and I would be interested to know how your augmentation ended up (anyhow, I hope you feel better today).

I have been taking 50mg sertraline 13 years successfully continuously until a year ago when I relapsed (anxiety + depression). I upped the dose to 100mg and the anxiety went better during 5 months after what the anxiety came back. I upped again the dose to 125mg, waited two months but improvements were not good enough so my doc and I decided to up the dose to 150mg begining july. I saw an improvement in august but since then my anxiety is back and get worse and sleeping is becoming difficult without xanax. It is a difficult situation because I am afraid to change drug and sertraline doesn't work anymore.

I would really appreciate if you could share your experience with me.

      Hi nicolas,

Curious to know how you're feeling now. I'm worried sertraline may have pooped out on me as well.

Hi. My daughter experienced Zoloft poop out for extreme GAD when she was 16. We had to go to a few differenct doctors and many drugs before we found the right one, who perscribed Prozac. It took a few months, but we began to see a difference. She is now back to where she was when she was on Zoloft. Prozac is in the same family and has worked great so far. It's been about 6 months since she started taking it.

I gave up Zoloft dosage increase, it did not improve my anxiety/panic. I then switched to escitalopram but there was no improvement. I switched to Effexor 300mg and augmented it with Lithium but all this did not help much, I still not well. I am currently trying the sismotheraphy and have a few positive results with it. Last possibility would be to switch to to old antidepressant.

I have pooped out on Zoloft (sertraline) for the second time! The first time, I switched to Lexapro (escitalopram), which worked great, until it gave me extreme anxiety, then, back to Zoloft. It's been great for about 13 years: 50 mg Spring/Summer, 100 mg Fall/Winter. Until the last month or so sad. In the past I have taken Wellbutrin - to stop smoking (it worked, but I was so manic I had to go off it...my muscles did not relax until 5 days after stopping completely after taper), sideEffexor yikes!, Cymbalta yikes also, but not as bad, and amitriptyline - for sleep only (it worked).

I see my Doc tomorrow, and I guess I will ask her to put me back on Lexapro for a while.

Has anyone tried Pristiq? It is available in generic now, but is still very expensive...
