Zoloft to Prozac?

Hi

So, I'm on my 6th week of Zoloft & I've been slowly starting to feel myself again, but I've been having rough nights with difficulty falling asleep and vivid dreams. My doctor wanted to try me on Prozac to see if that would be better with less side effects. I'm just nervous that switching medicines like that will make things worse again after it took me so many weeks to finally start feeling better. It's not that I don't trust my doctor, I just wanted to gain some insight from anyone who has transitioned from med to med. She said it shouldn't effect me because they're both SSRI's but I feel like I'm also still adjusting to Zoloft because it can take up to 8 weeks to fully take effect and i don't know if i should just wait it out or give prozac a try and see if it helps. Let me know what you think would work best/share your experience. Thanks!

    Hi brenniqua,

Just my two cents, I'm not a medic.

I've been taking Sertraline for 7 weeks and 2 days and saw my doctor today. I've been taking 50mg, increased to 75mg today. I had a whole range of side effects for a few weeks, most of them have gone now.

My depression is improved by 20%, occasionally my anxiety is increased. I spoke to my GP about this, she confirms what a lot of people here say: that Sertraline is a slow acting med and patience is needed, increasing dosage slowly and by small amounts until the optimum for each patient is reached. Once your body adapts the side effects go away.

If I were you, I'd stay with Sertraline for another couple of months. I have found Sertraline to be the only SSRI to work for me and have found all the others to also have side effects, although I've not transitioned from one to the other.

I think I would wait it out a bit longer. You did mention you’re starting to feel like yourself again which is a good indication that Zoloft is working. Zoloft can cause vivid dreams but are your dreams more like nightmares? There are some meds that can help with those.
