Zolpidem amnesia

Hi guys I have had major insomnia for months and so my doctor first tried me on phenergan with limited success and then we tried Zopiclone which worked better for a short while but I hated the metal taste, so he then put me on Zolpidem - last night was the first time I tried it at midnight and within 10 mins I began to feel it's the effects, I know we all react differently to meds but for me I think it's twice as strong as Zopiclone. It seems pretty potent.

I know I should have gone to bed as soon as I took the pill but after 15 mins of taking the Zolpidem I started to feel a drunken type of feeling - I couldn't walk properly so I sat on my bed to get ready for sleep and the next thing I remember is waking up at 6am. I absolutely do feel rested today though. But I don't even remember getting in bed or turning my bedroom light off, it's like I blacked out. Is this a common thing with Zolpidem? Thanks.
