Zolpidem experience

I started suffering from insomnia last November and my doctor prescribed me zolpidem (10mg) to try and get me back into a good sleeping rhythm. Long story short, I am now addicted to them, and if any more doctors dare to tell me they are non-addictive I will thump them. Tried to come off them cold turkey a few weekends and I never thought I could feel so ill in my life. Headaches, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, sweating; basic withdrawl symptoms resulting in a trip to the hospital. I'm still on zolpidem (alongside antidepressants but my depression is getting worse) but I still suffer from headaches and neckaches, and because I've been on it so long the original dose doesn't do anything for me and I'm having to take more and more for it to take any effect. It's spiralling out of control and making my life a living hell. I eventually changed to a different doctor (not that I would blame my original one for any of this, they were just doing their job) and this one seems more interested in sorting out why I had insomnia in the first place. I really hope I can get this sorted soon cos I don't think I can do this much longer.

Could you please indicate whether your addiction was as a result of taking these daily?

I only take one occasionally and to be honest they dont really seem to work but having read your post I'm awfully wary of these things.

I was prescribed 30 of zolpidem 10mg last year and i still have half a dozen or so left.

Were you taking these every day??

I only took mines every few days or so after 1 or 2 bad or sleepless nights.

They definetley worked for me and i always felt like i had had a great sleep.

I can remember the first night i took one, i was very wary as you do hear alot of bad things about sleeping pills but from what i know they have improved alot over the years. I had no side effects in the morning, which was great!

I agree with you though, IT IS POSSIBLE to become addicted to these. Infact. it even says this on the patient information leaflet in my packet!

Check if this is in yours and show it to the doctor who is denying this!! Isn't that the main reason why they are only a short term treatment for insomnia, usually not taken for more than 4 weeks it says in leaflet.

I hope you get this all sorted out and soon. Best wishes!
