Because the UK governmant have made them a class C drug. So UP cannot sell them legally here any more.

You *can* get your doc to prescribe more if you declare yourself addicted to them and you are determined to come off. But you'll have to be honest with them and they will probably put you onto a specialised drug adiction unit where they will switch you over to something like e.g. diazepam and gradually reduce the dose. At least, that's what they are doing for me.

Yup, I`m in exactly the same situation, dosage cut in half, no notification from my GP, so as I`m not prepared to buy them off the net, and I don`t know anyone who will give me them, it`s a matter of "like it or lump it", I can see Insomnia rearing it`s ugly head on the horizon.

My sympathies to all in the same situation.

Here's the Truth of it...  Norman Baker in his infinite wisdom on preention of crime, has decided after 7 days of being in his new position, to advocate an entire reclassification of may medicines, inluding those for parkinsons. Basically, I tink he wants to increase the burden on the NHS and (of course) have us all logged, catalogued, diced, controlled...  Cynical though that might sound, some of the reading makes for horrific reading.

You may find this interesting; Bottom line is, they think it's a legal high and has 'little legitimate use'. On that basis they convinved parliament et al.

You may find this artice interesting - the speech is astonishing.

Fascinating link, although I am wary of the BBCs news output in general, I think Easton has done a good job here. A minister who has probably never had the need for any of the medications, and has no problem getting to sleep because he can afford to quoff 1/2 a botttle of Chevas Regal everynight. Going by what this minister says the millions of people using, and need these drugs are of no concern to him. Pompous g*t!

do they help you steve? are the doctors still giving them to you

Yes, they have been a lifesaver for me. I started on 7.5mg a night when I first got insomnia bad then I went down to 3.75mg and they work great for me. No side effects, no problems! I had a problem back in December though when a new doctor at my surgery decided I should come off them - just like that! I saw my original doctor and got it sorted but now this has happened. My prescription was just reduced with no info from my doctor. I am going to try to speak to her about it next week but I guess there is nothing we can do now that it has been classified as a controlled drug!

they just stopped them thats wrong! i have to cut back now to one a night 3.75 starting from tonight..did u find when u dropped the dose it was easy

Back then I went from 7.5 to 3.75 quite easily I think but going any lower is more difficult. They should NOT just stop your meds, they should not be allowed to do that. My response was to write my original doctor a long letter explaining all the problems I'd had to be expected to just stop because a doctor wanted me to was unreasonable. When I got to see her she caved in straight away. Stand your ground, make an official complaint if you need to, but you should be able to get you drugs if you have no sleep without them

I'm sorry you're going through this Julie.  I understand what its like. There's a book I found on Amazon called The Effortless Sleep Method by Sasha Stevens which helped me earlier in the year when I was trying to cut my 3.75mg pills in half. Its about restoring our belief that we can sleep naturally again and I'm trying to get that belief going again. I did have some sucess, I managed to sleep normally for a few nights on half a tablet. The trouble is that very few doctors seem to really understand this problem. Tell you need a doctor that is supportive not confrontatonal. Let us know how you get on, we can all help each other on here.

thanks steve, no they dont have a clue Gps bet they would take them if they couldnt sleep and needed to work next day! ill look the book  up thank you, sleep is a natural thing we can do it..allways here and u did great sleeping on half a tablet. keep in touch

Hi Julie, ok thanks. Have you tried taking just 3.75mg yet? I I found that if I used other relaxation techniques I could adjust to this dose quite easily.

hi steve thanks for getting back to me..i took one and a half last night woke up early then took half and went back to sleep i think its worry steve. what other methods could i try hun

Insomnia is the one thing that gets worse when you think about it! When I reduced my dose I told myself I had taken a pill therefore I will sleep. This helped me relax. Everyone's different but I find repeating some kind of relaxing phrase in my mind over and over often distracts my mind into sleep. Also visualising in my minds eye a long walk that I had done, sounds easy, but is hard to do and has the same distracting effect on my stupid brain! I too used to have those nights when I would get up and take another pill but after a while I got on fine with the smaller dose.

hi steve when u 1st dropped the dose how was it ? did it take long for you to get back into a normal sleeping pattern..your really helping thank you

As I recall it didn't take too long, just a few days I think. The key is relaxation and belief. People without insomnia have a safety net, they KNOW they will sleep. We have sort of lost our safety net, we just need to believe we can sleep again:

      Relax-Believe-Sleep!
