Zopi is only supposed to be prescribed for a short period of time (a few days some say!), I guess because they may become addictive.  I know I've been addicted on and off for 5yrs.  From personal experience I can tell you it is possible to become properly physically addicted as the "mg's per night" increase, and suffer withdrawl when you stop... although very unlikely on 3.75mg per night (physical withdrawl).  Your doctor is unlikely to hand them out like sweeties anymore, the prescribing of zopi's is being tightened up alot... and sourcing them on the black market is a very slippery slope, self prescription will almost certainly lead to excessive intake.  My advise FWIW would be to try and stop taking them all together.  It is probable your body needs the 3.75mg every night (after taking them for 3yrs), so taking them every other night could be a recepie for eternal torment... I would recommend trying to take half a dose for a week, then a quarter... try and phase it out; as this is the only way I have been successful in the past.  The times I have successfully stopped taking zopi's all have been during long periods of healthy eating, exercise and complete abstinence from alcohol.  My replapses have been as a result of having quantities on hand as I have purchased them without prescription, and forgetting the fact everybody suffers from sleepless nights, being weak and reaching for the zopi's - instead of remembering how horrible they can be to come off.  Good luck.

Yes drs are trying to get all sleeping tablets stopped, you can sign a paper to say your aware of the addiction effects and they will prescribe for you.

3.5mg a night is nothing. You could stop straight away, its probably more habit than physical dependence (been there, 4-6 7.5mg tabs a day, not nice at all.)

It's better not to sleep at night that to take these evil things. Make sure you have a comfy bed, don't take any caffeine in tea or especially coffee  (I stopped a few weeks ago). Rather thave some Horlicks or something that will rest you. If I'm awake at 2am I get up and do something then go back to bed...
