I feel your anxiety. I have been on Xanax for over 3 years. I have PTSD and this is the only medication EVER that has helped my syptoms. I started at .5 x4 a day and have managed to get down to 2 a day with a struggle. The last visit to my "new" psych doc, she announced she's taking me off it. No substitute, no discussion. This is a very low dose, and although I would love nothing more than to not need it, I have issues that will not resolve with therapy. I have tried that route and the therapist agrees that if it works, why take it away? All the docs have detailed access to my meds and can see that I don't abuse anything. I just don't understand why they have no empathy. Why did they become doctors? When I run out, I am really afraid of what may happen. I've got a small supply that may last a few months when my script runs out, but what then? Do any of these doctors care at all? I sympathize. Although I have no answer.

Shirley, that must be so awful for you, I really sympathize. I'm in very much the same situation, have taken 2 x 7.5 zopiclone for years now, and sometimes another in the night. Can't get them from the doctor so buy online. They make my life so much brighter and easier; and at the age of 73, alone and no family, I need a crutch to get me through! GPs are so dedicated to not allowing áddiction' that they show no empathy or understanding of the individual's needs. When it comes to other medications, for physical symptoms, they're very happy to allow, or insist upon, a lifetime supply, statins for example. It's so wrong.

You really do have all my sympathy and total and complete understanding. I too have been looked at with such distaine and it's really beyond me. Like you, I have been on 2x 7.5mg for 10 years together with 25mg Amitriptylene . Initially I was prescribed 7.5mg for 2 months and it was then increased to 15mg. This dose was prescribed because I have an inoperable medical condition that is complete agony. Without it I simply am not able to sleep. I am intolerant of this dosage inspite of being on it for 10 year's. I have never needed and or, taken to any more than what has been prescribed. Over the years I have thankfully had understanding Dr's however, the current Dr has put me on a ridiculous weaning down programme. For me, this so called weaning down nonsense in my case is, all together, completely, counter productive and has brought with it
a whole new host of problems I've never had before !! A lot of folk think Zoplicone is a Benzodiazepine but it's actually not. It does have many Benzodiazepine properties but was not manufactured as a Benzodiazepine. Quite frankly I don't think Dr's. care about what does and doesn't work for their patients. All they seem to worry about is that the manufactures recommended dose is 7.5mg. They are quick to wave a big stick but, offer no alternatives. I am endeavouring to change Dr's and can only hope that soon I will be able to resume my normal dosage. If it ain't broke... don't fix it. I sincerely wish you continued strength and courage as you struggle through this. I wish I could help you.
