Zopiclone and my addiction in the UK (all over body rash for 5 years!)
Posted , 8 users are following.
Been on Zopiclone since 2008 started on 3.75mg then quickly upto 7.5mg for about 5-6 years then recently I've gone upto 15mg/22.5mg which I've managed to get down to 7.5mg
My gf has just left me because of my insomnia and addiction.
The drugs make it hard to wake and also really really lazy until about 2-3pm! So I haven't worked in 5 years - They most I've had is a week before I got sacked!
I also developed this horrible rash on my arms and legs and stomach, looks like an allergic reaction but docs just keep fobbing me off with it!
My addiction is massively psychological I have the "I haven't took a pill" syndrome! Which keeps me awake when I don't take them!
Anyone else been on them for this long?

I am sure rashes are nothing to do with the zopiclone.

Am very sorry to hear about your problems with zopiclone and situation with your partner...I was addicted to Zopiclone for around 7 years. I managed to come off them in 2014 although it was very hard to do...you may be allergic to the drug if you have a rash? Can you get this checked out by your doctor at all? Are you getting the zopiclone from your GP or other sources at the moment and are you wanting to come off as you should always try to taper off this drug due to the withdrawals if u, like myself, were taking it for quite a long time x
The GP can offer alternatives but it would depend what suits you/what other medicines you are taking x I myself asked my GP to refer me to a psychiatrist (this route obviously isn't for everyone), as I felt i was actually "losing the plot" through my addiction and the massive effects on my personal life and the loss of my career. I was diagnosed with severe depression, and placed on a combination of antidepressants and a low-dose antipsychotic for my zopi withdrawals. I would say the first few weeks were the closest i have been to "hell" - but all i can say is it was the BEST thing i ever did. I now sleep like i did before i ever started the Zopiclone
I wish you all the luck in the world, and please don't hesitate to contact me back. I found support forums fantastic when /i was coming off the pills - it somehow eases things to know you're not on your own
All the best
Emma

Not all g.p's are willing to use this method, or even know about it, so it's wise to google the info and take it with you.
Sometimes you have to ask for what you want.

Hi all. I stupidly got myself addicted to 7.5mg Zops 10 years ago (my choice). After 2 years, managed to get myself off with a mixture of alcohol, valium and Nightol (OTT sleeping aid). 3 years later, I was ordering them online again. New Year 2016, decided I'd had enough, cold turkey. 10 days and nights sleeping 1-2 hours per night. I'm working full time and single mum. I couldn't cope, so got an express delivery. Never thought I'd be able to come off them. I read hundreds of websites looking to get them cheaper (I was paying up to £1.50 per pill) and I was worried about the consequences about receiving them. I read about Phenergan and thought that it wouldn't even touch the sides. I even ordered them on my 1st cold turkey, but by the time they came, I'd got some Z so threw them to the back of a drawer. By Xmas 2016, I'd f'd up so much mixing Z & alcohol, I was ready to go cold T. I had 2 weeks off work - perfect. Cut down the Z by 1/4 each night and took 2 Phenergan (1 at 10pm, 1 at 11pm), stayed up as late as poss and by the time the Z was at 1/4, I was sleeping! Me! A slave to it.
Stupidly, I lay in bed until 1pm on a Sunday and still had a few Z left. Obvs what I did. Now the Phenergan don't seem to work as good, but I'm sticking to it and never going back to that.
Unfortunately, when I wake up in the morning (without Z), my mind is racing about everything & anything. However, even though the racing mind is not pleasant, it's better than being a zombie.
I have had this drug in my blood for 6/7 years in total. Now I can't sleep without Phen...but I think this is a better addiction.
