Randomised, open-label and parallel group trial to investigate the effects of oral BI 685509 alone or in combination with empagliflozin on portal hypertension after 8 weeks treatment in patients with clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) in compensated cirrhosis
This study looks at new ways to treat high blood pressure in the liver, called portal hypertension, in people with liver scarring (cirrhosis). It tests a new drug, BI 685509, alone or with an existing drug, empagliflozin, to see if they can lower this pressure.

Beta-blockers or Placebo for Primary Prophylaxis (BOPPP) of Oesophageal Varices Trial.
This study looks at whether a blood pressure medicine called a beta-blocker can prevent bleeding from small swollen veins (varices) in the food pipe for people with liver scarring (cirrhosis). Currently, we only know beta-blockers work for large varices. This research aims to find out if they help with small ones too.

4D-Flow MRI Assessment of Portal Hypertension and TIPS Outcomes in Cirrhosis
This study uses a special MRI scan (4D-Flow MRI) to better understand liver problems in people with cirrhosis. It aims to find a simple, non-invasive way to check a condition called portal hypertension, which is currently measured with an invasive procedure.

Exploration of Systemic and Portal Hemostasis in Patients Undergoing Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt Placement
This study aims to understand why some people with liver scarring (cirrhosis) develop blood clots in a major liver blood vessel, called the portal vein. Researchers are looking at blood samples taken during a procedure called a TIPS to see how blood clotting and inflammation differ in the liver and the rest of the body.
